J. Richardson had mentioned a desire to have some vegan alternatives on hand as well and the following would just be purchased items.....others may be able to weigh in with home-brewed offerings.

Cheese is getting there.....and while not cheap, our preferred types available in the US are Violife (cheddar and provolone slices and cream cheese) and Miyokos (spreadable cheese) and Forager (yogurt and sour cream) brands.  The oft-used ground almond flour with salt and nutritional yeast remains a good ground parmesan substitute. Everyone has their own 'palate favorites' but these seem pretty decent to our household.

'Butter' substitutes in the vegan world are almost too numerous to count and range from new products from MAJOR industrial brands to new kids on the block.  Lots of oil alternatives in this category....my wife likes Earth Balance and I rotate more around what's available when I end up at the store.  (Side note on waffles.....just seems best to use one of these "hard" oils both in the batter and melted onto the griddle as well for these crunchy comestibles.)

Milk....  Again, so many offerings.  Right now we're addicted to Chobani oat milk (unflavored plain extra creamy type) and I can make a reasonable facsimile in the blender from intact or rolled oats.  Very versatile from coffee creamer to cake batter to ..... waffle batter!    When a thickened cream-base is needed for cream-soups or gravy or alfredo-type sauce, quick-made cashew or almond milk in the blender works wonders and tends to "auto-thicken" without added starches or flours.

We started an Amazon Wishlist today in case you're ever feeling like you want to send something to us but don't know what we might want at the moment. Here is the link to our Wishlist! We'll do our best to keep it up to date with helpful things for our projects.

I haven't had a chance to go searching through Amazon for these things, but a couple things that have come up in conversation that would be helpful for future projects would be:
- curved chisels (we have tiny ones in the carving set, but we could use some larger ones - 1/2"+ etc.)
- sewing supplies for fabric and leather (we have a sewing box that needs all the bits that go inside)
- a soldering iron (I used to work with a Weller that was the bee's knees)
- insulated work gloves and maybe some wool liner gloves
- neatsfoot oil (leather oiling)

If you happen to have any of these things sitting around and want to relocate them to our hands, we'd appreciate that immensely!

As winter rolls in, I think it makes a huge difference to have really excellent winter gear.  Layers.  Really good winter boots (layers here too).  Really good gloves (still layers).   Hats, long johns, hot pants (kinda like insulated overalls) or maybe even insulated coveralls.  A nice sweater, and, of course, a good coat.  I think now is a good time to start learning about all this stuff ...

I'm not sure about the Boots, but I know that for events Paul arranged for there to be boxes with washable menstrual products for anyone to take who needs one. Right now, I think it's just stocked with bandannas. I'm thinking bandannas won't do much for a heavy flow day, and it'd be great to have some other alternatives!

Are there boots who would like to have a vegan cook book or two? Like "The Non-Dairy Evolution Cookbook: A Modernist Culinary Approach to Plant-Based, Dairy Free Foods" ( ISBN: 1499590423 ) and/or "The Homemade Vegan Pantry: The Art of Making Your Own Staples"(ISBN:1607746778) I like both books and  have cooked many a recipe from each one.

These are nearly all things I'm in need of. Boots, warm pants/coveralls and a good coat especially. I came late spring and didn't bring anything with me for cold weather and it seems that the cold is now creeping upon us. Suggestions on durable, warm, waterproof, vegan work boots? Seems like a hard find...

Vegan Waterproof Boot !

Made in Italy! They seem durable, but I don't know from personal experience.

Vegan Boot 'Wraps'

Vibram ( The toe-shoe company ) makes these cool 'wrap' style boots. I'm wanting to get a pair myself to test them out. Not sure how durable they'd be for deep snow or hard farm work , but I imagine they'd be good paired with thick wool socks for general walking / hiking / light to moderate work.

I second this! I did inherit a small bit of winter layers from my uncle before shipping out here, but certainly lack warm wool gloves and some nice wool socks to keep the appendages from turning blue. Of course maybe there are some of these already available at basecamp I just haven't found yet?

I think something that the boots would really enjoy is an electric bicycle.

Medium men’s hiking/utility pants.. my Columbia’s have lasted me nearly a decade of heavy wearing.. now they have a hole in the knee from a barb wire while changing a fence post.. and the rear pockets are ripped but I get by.. they don’t have a model number but they are 32x34..

Other than that my every day items are pretty okay.. my large size Carhart rain coat has a small wrist hole but works ok.. and rainy season should be Pretty much done..

A thanks to Greg M. For this wonderful cowboy hat which I just need to wash for this upcoming sunny season..’

The next thing I am looking at buying (I don't know if it is appropriate for boot love) is rye flour and experimenting with rye sourdough.

Why not both? New pants for everyday wear, and then these one's getting mended for the really dirty/destructive jobs!

I am not a boot, but I wish for a brand new electric golf cart.  2wd.  Straight axle (no lift kit).  Super basic so that it will keep working a long long long time - without needing constant repair (like the fancy stuff with lift kits always need).

Here is what I had on mount spokane that just worked endlessly.  I used it all day every day.

I’m currently looking for a hat to work in for the upcoming spring and summer. I’m wanting something cotton-y, lightweight, and washable. Like a bucket/boonie hat with a decently sized brim for sun protection. :)
