Want to help choose which card goes with which suit and face?

This poor man's poll will pick which topic goes with which suit, face card and number. Populating the suits will be in this order;  Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades. The card order will be from top to bottom; Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, and so on until all are assigned. For example, the 4 most popular will be the Ace of Hearts, the Ace of Diamonds, the Ace of Clubs, the Ace of Spades.

How this works:

Click thumbs up / +1 for all the cards you that you like.

Adding an Apple to a post counts as 10 votes!

Adding PIE to a post counts as 20 votes!

You can vote for as many of the cards as you like.

We'll post the results when we have them!

Happy voting!

It took me a minute to figure out how the voting for what goes on what card works.

It looks like we have 52 ideas for card fronts. You can put a thumbs-up on whichever card fronts you like best. Whichever card ideas get the most votes will be the aces, then the ones with the next highest votes will be the kings. Then the next highest will be the queens.

A thumbs-Up = 1 vote
An apple= 10 votes
A pie = 20 votes

Right now:

natural cooling has 2 apples and 1 thumb. That means 21 votes.
haybox cooker has 3 thumbs, but no apples. So it just has 3 votes.
rocket oven has no thumbs, but 1 apple.
Rocket water heater has 1 apple and 2 thumbs. That makes 12 votes.
starting fruit trees from seed has 1 apple and 3 thumbs. That makes 13 votes.

If voting ended right now, Natural cooling, rocket oven, rocket water heater, and fruit trees from seed would all be aces, while the haybox cooker would be a king.

So, if there's soemthing you find really important/valuable, give it thumbs and maybe even an apple!

I also wonder if the background and foreground would be more harmonious if some of the colors of the tree were worked into the background, kind of like this:

a very quick and dirty photoshop for the general idea. I'm sure Andres would do a much better job!!

I just made another layer in photoshop and changed the hue of a few boarder areas. I didn't spend much time thinking about what colors would look best in which places, and I didn't color very well in the lines. I just wanted to be able to see it, because my mind is terrible at visualizing things!

I like where this is going very much. I like purple pie, but it doesn't work for me in a card. Greens and maybe sepias work best to this eye.

There has to be something seedy. Seeds, saving seeds, planting seeds, storing seeds, mixing seeds (landrace), seeds are/of life.
Andrés Bernal I just bet with your talents you could portray all the differences seeds indicate :-)

There are a couple. However, the number and suit on the cards is yet to be determined. We would like to base the poll on the topics.

In this thread, above this Poor Man's Poll is one for the Back Card Design. Andres is a wonderful artist! Those pictures are there to vote on.

I was asked to put in the values and suit for each.  And I said that we should do a poll to see which ones are the aces (best), kings, queens, etc.

Actually, seeing the images associated with each topic could significantly affect the voting.  If an image is at all confusing or less aesthetically pleasing, one of the more upvoted topics might get fewer votes, and likewise a really amazing image might attract more votes despite illustrating a topic with less "blind" interest.   Since the whole purpose of the cards is to generate interest and further research into each topic, the images will have a major effect on that.  Just my 2 cents... and in fact I did not vote for a few items whose terminology I did not recognize.  An image might have sparked understanding and gotten a vote from me!  When I have spare time I plan to search and learn anyway, but by the time that happens I may have forgotten all about it...

But I'm sure there is a reason behind your method, so carry on!

That makes sense. We could have a different one later. It seems to be a catch-22...Andres is creating the cards but doesn't know which suit and face/number they are...as you say, the artwork could affect opinions, too.

Have you seen the back of the card poll up above in this thread...https://permies.com/t/206569/Permaculture-Playing-Cards#2474829

Do you get the dailyish? He has a card out in the dailyish forum showing the artwork and asking for feedback.

Yes, I have seen both the artwork from the dailyish, and the back of card color poll, and gave input into both.  Can Andres just do the artwork without suit and number, then add those later as another "layer" in photoshop, or something comparable in whatever software he is using?  Even if he is doing everything by hand, numbers and suits can still be added later as long as room is left for them.   Years ago I did work in Photoshop, and the layer function came in quite handy for easy changes!  He could make every one the ace of hearts, then easily change them later, rather than leaving a blank space for the suit and number.  Or put a black suit on top and a red one on bottom just to show what both would look like with each image, again all to be changed to their permanent designations later.  Of course that would require serious proofreading before publication, LOL!
