Black Locust is the same as Robinia pseudo-acacia, isn't it? Because that's what I think this tree is.

Precisely that!

The Permaculture Technology Jamboree has begun...! Day One has finished. I'm impressed with the amount of progress on these projects, even less than 12 hours in.

One of the projects will be to design and begin construction on a Round Door, inspired by hobbit houses from Tolkien's books. I'm astonished at the beefiness of the hinge intended for use in this engineering marvel. Here's fellow Boot Ben modeling it for us.

Mike Haasl is facilitating the building of a pavilion over the patio between the Library and the Fisher Price House. I returned to Basecamp earlier today and wasn't expecting to see four holes like this one dug straight into the patio's surface...

Oh, and there's a new resident in the Berm Shed, next to the classroom. A robin's nest appeared this past Spring, and it looks like there's one bird born, and one more to go, for this bird family to take wing later in the Summer.

Finally: Opalyn facilitated the construction of window quilts, using some complex quilting patterns for the first time. I think these look excellent. I'm particularly impressed with the half-triangle segments that Opalyn and participant Krista came up with today.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading, and enjoy your day...!

Happy Taco Tuesday to you... PTJ Edition!

Here's the current state of the Round Door project. It currently occupies some space just outside the classroom. To build it, I've seen them with both the band saw and the drill press outdoors. This is pretty wild.

Uncle Mud and his team are testing out the Rocket Hot Tub heating system in the back yard of the classroom. They'll be installing a water pump and maybe a wind-powered turbine to agitate water in the tank, testing their effectiveness with increasing the lifespan of hot-water temperatures.

Michael O and his Yoga Yurt team removed the previous iteration of the floor and will be installing something new in the days ahead.

A cadre of at least a dozen folks banded together to haul all these logs to the patio, for use in the Pavilion project.

That's all for now. Another wild day at the PTJ...! Thanks for reading, and enjoy your day...!

Mid-week of PTJ 2024. Sky brought us all vegan donuts from town. Event = success.

Here are the kittens that are shacked-up at the front porch of the House. Black Spark is their hard-workin' momma. Paul has named the one with the dark spot on its nose Banjo.

Jim and Heidi cut a barrel for the Rocket Hot Tub project.

Jim also led the project where the lumber rack was removed from Ranger Doug (R.I.P., you good ol' truck), and is being customized to fit on Roy, our newest rig.

Here's Jim, doing the real work of not letting us poke our eyes out through the power of SAFETY.

I was afraid we'd been neglecting the gardens this week, so I did some up close inspections. Here are some pole beans. Any plant that has that fantastic combination of green and purple has my vote.

The currants are in...! I'd say they're about 90% ripe.

Finally: over at the Willow Grove, we've added a bit more Willow Candy (okay, okay... a full can's worth of Candy), and when watering it earlier today I spooked this spider away from home. Sorry pal: it's moving day.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading, and enjoy your day...!

She's brilliant. She can see what can be and is not limited to what is. And she knows this tiny ad:
