Well, I went for a larger reward, myself. I'm not sure if it includes the audiobook. Had I chosen the audiobook-only option, I wouldn't be able to get the other lot *shrug*

The book is at the printer.  They say it will be ready to send to us via freight truck on September 9.  So we should be getting it a week or two after that.

Yesterday and today was long talks about boxes and shipping stuff.  Boxes in the US, boxes in Canada, international boxes.   Boxes for one book, two books ... 12 books and 24 books.

The narrator for the audiobook has been selected.

The "reflowable" ebook hit some snags and we found an expert to sort out the issues.  It will be a week or so for him to dig into it.

I'm all on board with the mission you talked about in the pod and wanted to buy a dozen (maybe a bulk discount?) but there was no way to purchase larger quantities? How can I order 12 and have them all shipped together, I would hate to place 12 separate purchases and have them all individually shipped.

Hi Rachel, thanks for your interest in our book. Setting this up in the permies digital market is on Paul's to-do list. Stay tuned.

Speaking of ordering bulk and postage, I ordered 12 physical books. Postage to Australia. The postage was not discounted for multiple items. If you guys can send it cheaper, you score!

Also, reading that the book was at the printer's prompted me to search harder for the email that revealed how to get my creative name in the book.
It (the link to the survey) was in my wife's email account as she has the kickstarter account.

I completed the survey just now. Pretty confident that it's still far too late to have my creative name included. Right?

That will teach me to be more organized 😉

Hi Isaac, yes, it is too late to get your name in the book. If memory serves, which it doesn't always, I think we said we would need the names in roughly two days about three months ago.

There are a lot of limitations to the kickstarter system. Detailed shipping stuff is one of the biggest limitations. We did what we had to do to make sure our costs were covered. Especially since neither of us had done something at this scale with this many options and physical products before. I suspect that once this is all over we will have learned things that would allow us to tweak the system better next time.

No worries, Shawn.

I think you've done a great job.
I'm looking forward to sharing the book with friends and family. Especially the doom and gloom activist types who could have a much greater impact by, you know, taking action.

For a dozen books going to Auz (and the same goes for everybody outside of north america):    you will probably get 11 books in one package and the 12th book (signed) in another package.

Shipping outside the US is simply insane.  We think we found a way to get books printed in Auz that drops the shipping costs quite a lot - but since the quantity is so low, they want some serious coin per printed book.

We are still keeping our options open.

Book printing is complete.   We are now in the middle of all sorts of discussion about freight shipping.

Best guess at signing party is now Sep 21.

8500 books arrived here.  And shawn tells me that 1500 books arrived at his place in canada.

(I'm doing all of the US shipping, and shawn is doing all of the non-US shipping)

The books will now gather dust until Friday.   Shawn will arrive thursday eve and we will begin signing and boxing on friday.   The official signing party is on saturday.  If enough people show up, we might get it all done on saturday evening.  (I'm told lasagna (pizza flavored cake) will be served from the rocket oven!)

Shawn will arrive Thu. Sep. 19, opening and signing starts Fri. Sep. 20, with the signing party on Saturday. Sep. 21.

True!  The books will gather dust for about a week.

In the meantime, work continues on the other formats.   And I hope to get some of the alpha books put up by this weekend.

Yesterday was the official signing party!   More than a dozen people - what a busy day!

Dave Burton is one of the boots here and he posts pics and videos daily here.  And this is a few of the pics he shared:

Starting with breakfast by Jocelyn and helpers:

Start signing books so they can go in boxes

We found a box that just barely holds 12 books.  Thus reducing total cardboard and having to stuff a box with filler.

Hup hup hup!

I recorded a podcast with bill at lunchtime

Dave took a quick video to give you an idea of the activity level

All of the stuff for the united states was done at about 5:30 or so.  There's just a few things left to do today for international orders.

At 6:30 jocelyn served lasagna (made in the rocket oven):

I suspect Jocelyn and Coco will add a bunch more to this thread.   I saw coco taking lots of pictures.

Good to see real men with their Leatherman tools, but where's the flashlights?  I doesn't get dark in Montana?

The following is a true story.  I've been wearing a Leatherman tool and a high-end flashlight on my belt for decades.  Prior to 9-11, my wife would complain about me wearing them wherever we went.  Then 9-11 happened, and that story came out about the guy who saved a bunch of people from the lower portion of the tower.  The crash had killed the emergency lighting in the stairwells, so without windows, the only way out was as dark as a cave.  But one guy had an Indeglo watch, which he used to guide a bunch of people safely down the stairs and out to the street before he towers crashed. Saved dozens of lives.  My wife an I were watching that news report and I declared out loud, "where are the flashlights!?  These are grown men, and not a one has a (bleeping) flashlight on him?!"

My wife just sighed and said, "Okay, you can wear your flashlight to church!"

And I have every day since, no matter what I wearing or where I'm going.  The only exception is to the county clerks office, because it's in the county government building, and they get upset about the 2.5" knife blade on the Leatherman tool.  Even then, they're outside in the car, and back on my belt as soon as I'm out of the building.

I got my package of books on Saturday I already started passing some out. One is going to go on the FREE shelf at the library next time my son wants to go after daycare, so I assume today since he always wants to go. (They have a train table.)

Now lets see if there are enough pictures in it to let me get by reading it as his bed time "story" (He is 3).

I just got my box of books today!  Yay!  Thanks so much Paul and Shawn.  I look forward to sitting down with it in paper book form.  I did read it at various stages in development online trying to offer feedback.  It will be nice to see how the final version came together.

I'm going to see about starting to give away copies now too!

Oh, and thanks for the bonus acknowledgements you gave me in the acknowledgements section!  :)

The orders have been placed for books outside of Canada and the US. I just woke up to find that more than half of those orders were shipped from the facility 3-4 days earlier than expected!

The orders for places outside of Canada and the US are being fulfilled by the printer faster than anticipated.

Individual copies were sent via letter mail. So as long as letter mail usually takes.

The rest should arrive within 3-7 days. So maybe starting today but probably going into next week.

Also I am not sure how quickly they were able to process all of the packages at my post office. I get the idea that there aren't a lot of large shipments coming out of our town.
