I'd join a BB club just to have support and accountability by working with other people! It would be a great way to troubleshoot problems you might be having with your BBs.
I don't think I'd personally need any extra incentives to do it: it seems like it has its own intrinsic value

Would a weekly 1hr zoom call be a good format for you, Carolyne?

Is 1 BB per week the right speed for you?

I think that should work! I’m furloughed right now so I have a lot of free time on my hands!

May i raise a question about timezones? Not personally but other people round the world might want to join. Will the video be posted later with the ability for others to comment or will this be a regional or american bb club for now?

Great point! I'd love for other folks to join in and host these, such that there's more coverage through the day and through the week.

- On the one hand, I see some value in recording, so folks can attend the 'rerun.' and still participate.
- On the other hand, I know of some people who would likely not participate in a video if they knew it was being recorded and posted online afterwards.

What do y'all think?

To me the topic (thread) of a BB, with everyone posting their photos there, asking questions, giving reactions ... That feels like a BB-club.
I do not feel the need to have a different kind of club, for which I have to be present at a certain time to meet with Zoom.

What about a thread with a link for a zoom meeting for a certain time then having minutes/notes/helpful tips discovered/or something similar written as a comment and other people can have more discussion underneath? This way people who can make it can and those who cant or would like to review the information can still participate or something.
There would still need variants of a bb club for different timezones for those who would prefer face to face discussion but it'll be better maybe?

Honestly, many things are possible for a BB club.

The practical question becomes the time and effort available from the people willing to _volunteer_ to do this, not just the first and second times, but also the hundredth time.

Any takers? Both on the leading and the following side.

I believe that with Zoom there is also a function that allows you to attend in Audio-only format (no video) so folks who don't want to be recorded on camera could still take part in the discussions

A friend suggested these could be called a "BB Bootcamp."

Perhaps that's the name for the 3-BB's-a-week group?

Ok, I'm going to try the first BB Club zoom call Wednesday, July 22nd at 8am Mountain Time.

The Plan:
On Wednesday the 22nd, we'll meet over zoom to discuss the BB of the week, review the requirements, and cover any questions anyone has.
On Wednesday the 29th, we'll meet over zoom to review the past week's BB, (everyone's maps and Certified BB's), and to discuss the next BB of the week.

This first week, we'll be working on the Community Sand BB: Make a Map: https://permies.com/wiki/101705/pep-community/PEP-BB-community-sand-map
The next week, we'll be working on the Community Sand BB: Brand a Location: https://permies.com/wiki/101686/pep-community/PEP-BB-community-sand-brand

Time zone converter here: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20200722T140000&p1=3358&p2=tz_gmt&p3=51&p4=133&p5=3138&p6=246&p7=236&p8=22

Tell your friends! Join the fun; it's collective map-making time.

The details will be posted to this thread, so reply or watch this thread so you're in the loop!

Let me know if you have any questions come up.

It's a map! It's PEP! Perhaps it's a map _for_ PEP. And about how to make community.

We had another good meeting this morning.

It seems people are trending towards pursuing those BB's that interest them, instead of a structured format. So things will stay unstructured until the time comes when we need more structure.

See y'all next week!

Hi - Is this happening? I am on the zoom link but it says host still has to start meeting.

I am the ultimate newbie and wanting to learn more and start my badge collection. I was hoping to listen into the masters and start the journey of discovery.

Hi Ashley,
Welcome to Permies! Welcome to PEP!

We start at 8am mountain time, and we run until everybody's done. This morning we wrapped up around 8:45.

I hope to catch you next week.

I'll stick around for a few minutes in case anyone else wants to pop on.

Thanks for joining this morning Ashley! I hope you feel more comfortable with the SkIP language, and can see that BB20 is not as far away as it first seemed. I really look forward to seeing you next week.

Opalyn, I'm so so sorry I didn't see you in the zoom waiting room. I was presenting my screen, and I'm still getting the hang of how zoom (doesn't) notify the meeting host of a person in the waiting room. I hope you can join next week.

Here's Your Sign!

I checked in to see what kind of sign we needed and described my Nest: Brand a Place project.  The project morphed into a directional sign so it will qualify for the dimensional wordworking BB but not the community "brand a place" sign.
Looking forward to Wednesday.

I'd love to restart it. I can do Wednesdays but I have a commitment until 8:30 Mountain time.  If folks wanted to do it at that time I could host it (on FreeConferenceCall.com, which is basically the same as Zoom but free).

If that works for you, click a thumbs up (+ 1) on this thread.

If not, I could participate for the second half of the gathering.

Meantime I'll just share a tad about where I'm at on this thread.

victories:

--did sand level gardening badge, all 3 bits, last summer
--made 2 bits of green woodworking, even though I had no idea  it was even a thing before Skip.  ALso, I still use my simple mallet for splitting kindling, and occasionally use the compound mallet (wish I'd known you need a wooden hammer for replacing handle on an axe....)
--I get stuck with feeling a bit of overwhelm, not having tools or materials (e.g. a live tree that needs to come down for woodland care...i think there's got to be oppprtunities somewhere, but I have to brainstorm a bit and I'd want to make sure it's truly in everyone's best interest that that tree comes down.  Here in the city we really need every tree we can have.). Or even a dead tree that needs to come down and isn't butt up against a chain link fence, so there's not a direction you can really let it fall in away from somebody's car...wow, this could be incriminating later heehee
--I also just don't know where to begin, I'd love help strategizing which ones are the real priorities for me, vs. just which ones look interesting.
--I almost did a rocket stove one, I cook on a crude rocket cooktop (not sure it qualifies) frequently, but documenting it is where I just haven't gotten it together.  I like some encouragement and attention around that kind of thing.  I'm sometimes not great at following directions.

OK, one thumb's up.  I'm going to go on next week at 11 Eastern/9 Mountain Time, and hopefully at least one other person will show and then it'll grow!

I'm not quite comfortable giving out my personal meeting room info on the internet here, just because I use it for work too, so purple mooseage me if you want to join.  I'll send it to you if you thumbs up here too.
