This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Commerce

For this BB, you will sell your permaculture labor off-site for at least $500.

What is permaculture work?
Note, this will probably be expanded on later, however, it needs to be something related to permaculture.
  • creating earthworks
  • working in a permaculture garden
  • teaching a permaculture topic
  • doing a permaculture design
  • natural building
  • organizing a permaculture course
  • woodland care
  • cooking for a permaculture event
  • building a rocket mass heater (or rocket something)
  • converting vehicles to electric or woodgas
  • setting up willow feeder systems for other people
  • installing a greywater system with tree crops for someone

  • To get certified for this BB, post the following:
      - a description of your labour and how it relates to permaculture
      - Photos of you doing the work
      - Proof that you got paid $500 or more (you can smudge out the personal info, so long as it is identifiable as you)

note:  this could be several different things that all add up to $500 or more.

Here is our latest project we are just finishing up. This is a landscape in Ferndale, Washington. My partner and I worked together on this design and project installation management. We started with a concept design and working with feedback from our clients, we developed a master plan. We then contacted landscape installers and hired the best fit for the project. We selected, purchased, delivered, and placed all plants in the landscape. The plant selection is a mix of edibles, no-mow lawn, native plants, medicinal and benefitial wildlife support plants. Below are photos of the design, some of the installed plants, and an invoice with personal info blanked out.

I knocked this one out over the last month.  I've been teaching some permaculture classes with a friend and the check just arrived in the mail.  Lucky for me it was exactly $500.  It was a light-duty permaculture design class for people to explore permaculture.  I got a couple folks to take a pic as I was inspecting their work during the mapping part of the classes.

A couple of years ago, from June-November, I worked on this farm, Verdant Acres, a regenerative farm run by some friends of mine, that's about 20ish minutes down the road from me.

(They worked at Polyface for a while before they got their own place. Polyface is only 20ish minutes from me as well. And one of my husband's current coworkers is a Salatin grandkid. Coincidences abound in a small town.)

Mostly I worked in the market garden and high tunnel, seeding, planting plugs, weeding, pruning, trellising, harvesting. Every other Monday during the summer we processed broiler chickens. I gutted and cleaned and weighed and packaged. Once or twice I helped move electric polynet fences for the sheep.

This was before I knew about BBs, so the documentation I have is this...

First BB I've ever tried to submit, so please let me know what I should be doing. Is this correct? And do I need to submit something for the sand BB in this category as well, or does this one count towards both?

    Hi R West,

Thanks for attempting this BB but you're not quite there. We need a photo that shows you actually doing the work yourself.

Also if you can show the portion of the pay stub with you name (at least part of it) so we know this is your paystub.

You can submit for the sand level BB seperately on this page: https://permies.com/wiki/115209/pep-commerce/Sell-permaculture-labor-site-paid

Congratulations on your efforts. The staff are currently discussing your post.  To answer your other question, you need to submit separately for the sand level bb and use its BB page.
