We will maintain a waiting list.  When there is an opening, we will send an email to the people on the list.  Of the people that reply to the email within 24 hours, the person that has been on the waiting list the longest will be selected.

Staff note (Nicole Alderman) :

Click here to join the waiting list!

It might be wise to sign up for the waiting list now - even if you don't want to come out now.  That way, when you get an email and you are ready to come out, then you are most likely at the top of the list.

Paul - just to clarify.  If a Permie were on the list and you reached out, but said Permie declined due to not being ready at that time, would Permie remain at the top of the list into the future until ready?  How many times would you think it reasonable to reach out to someone who declines before you moved them down the list, or stopped reaching out at all?

I asked Paul this today, and he was super clear that there are no penalties for saying you're not ready when the email goes out. There's only positives for joining the waiting list early on.

How the waiting list looks like in practice:

(1) You pay $100 and you're on the waiting list--yay!

(2) An opening occurs in Bootcamp. Paul sends out the email saying, "We have an opening, reply if you want it." If you're not ready, don't reply!

(3) Of the people who reply to his email saying in 24 hours, saying, "Yes, I'm ready!!" Paul will pick whoever has been on the waiting list the longest.

(4) Another opening occurs, and Paul sends out another email  saying, "We have an opening, reply if you want it." If you're not ready, don't reply! Someone else snags it, and you've moved up the list.

(5) Repeat steps 3+4 until finally you're at the point where you're ready to accept. Paul sends out the email saying, "We have an opening" and you reply in 24 hours and since you've been on the list so long just biding your time, you get the opening!!

You never have to reply. You will always stay on the waiting list. There are no penalties for staying on the waiting list without replying. In fact, there's an advantage, because the longer you're on the waiting list, the higher the chance is that, when Paul says, "I have an opening!" and you actually are ready to seize that opening, YOU will get that opening.

Further example:

Say there's 100 people on the waiting list, and you're number 99. Chances are many of them won't be ready when Paul says "I have an opening." And over time, people will snag his offer and you'll keep moving up the list. Each and every time there's an opening, Paul emails all 100+ people on the list. And you just keep moving up and up the list over time because you've just been biding your time. So, when you're finally ready to seize the offer, there's a high possibility that you will get it!

Nicole is correct.

Therefore, it is wise to get on the list early.   Then when you are ready and you get the email and four people response (including you) - you will be chosen because you have been on the list the longest.

Awesome! If you haven't already, join the waiting list over at the Bootcamp website. It's a $100 to get on the list, but that $100 lasts forever, and if you come and then leave, you can come back again without paying the $100 again (as long as there are openings, of course!)

I'll add the link to the first post, too, so it's easier for everyone to find!

I payed the 120 assuming I was taking some one with me. (Not sure if that’s till the case) Is there a way to check where I am on the list?

Thank you,
Looks like it went through August 19th and the email is set right. :) I feel that leaves it all set up for when the time comes. I’m really enjoying the 2017 pdc web edition in the mean time, highly recommended for anyone.

Carter,

You might need to email me.  Maybe reply to the email I sent you when you paid.  My guess is that your permies.com email address is different than your paypal email address.

I think you always keep your position.   I suppose there could be exceptions - but for the most part you keep your position.

Hi, Your bootcamp waitlist PayPal link is charging $1000 instead of $100.

Can you give me a clear idea of where this link is?  I would need to fix it.  The text says "SKIP super earlybird" - is it possible that you clicked on the wrong thing?

Hi Paul, I have PayPal one touch activated so it didn't give me a chance to change the amount, but when I clicked the link "Join Permaculture Bootcamp" on this page https://wheaton-labs.com/bootcamp/
it took me to selecting one person or two. It says $100 there, but when I clicked the one-person link that's where the $1000 showed up. I just clicked it now and when it takes me to PayPal this time it says $100, so maybe you found the glitch?

We haven't changed anything.

When I hover over those two links, one is for $100 and one is for $120.

But if you go to the SKIP event page, a ticket is $1000.

Did you want to go to the SKIP event?

and YES i am very interested in the SKIP thing and I have a note in my calendar on Sept. 30 to decide if I want to pay early for that
in regard to the $900 I overpaid, i sent a request to you for that amount through PayPal

Chrissy,

This took a rather giant bite out of my day.

Here is what I was able to figure out.  I am writing here so we have a record of it.

You looked at the bootcamp page and then wandered over to the SKIP page.   You bought a ticket for the SKIP event for $1000.   And then 7 minutes later you filed a paypal dispute for $900.  4 minutes later you filed a paypal money request for $900.  So you put in $1000 and asked for $1800 back.

I called paypal to sort it all out.  The money request is canceled.  And since there was a dispute on the $1000 for $900, I was unable to refund the full $1000, but limited to refunding $900 - which I did.

So the bizarre thing is that the records show that you have $100 still sitting out there for the SKIP event.

But you don't want to buy a ticket for the SKIP event .... yet.

You wish for this remaining $100 to be the fee for the bootcamp waiting list, is that correct?

Hello, I am more than willing to accept that I might have accidentally clicked on pay for SKIP. But if I had done that, isn't the price for SKIP right now $800 and then after 9/30 it's more than $1000?
So how would PayPal have charged me an amount for SKIP that isn't even the current amount?

And I am sorry it took a chunk of time out of your day. Whatever happened took a very large chunk of my money. And though I make mistakes, I really do recall clicking on the link to pay for BootCamp waitlist. In regard to my seeming to have asked for double the refund that I really want, that was not intended and I apologize if my requesting it via PayPal AND messaging you felt off-putting. From my perspective I just want that $900 back on my card before my billing cycle ends.

SO, all of that said, I did intend to pay only to be on the BootCamp waitlist. But now after all of this, and you commenting that I/this situation sucked a lot of your time today, well I don't know what I feel.
Maybe you and I should talk on the phone in private. I guess I feel that the comment about this taking a lot of your time was a dis to me and I don't feel good about it. And if I don't feel good about this, then should I be a boot? I am sure you're a lovable wonderful person in many ways. What do you want to do about this now?

The SKIP button was actually an error on my part. When I updated the page for 2021 Super Early Bird Prices, I must have missed that one in the code. It was accidentally still at $1,000 (though the button claimed $800). I just fixed that error (now both say $800).

If you hover your mouse over each of the pay buttons on the various event pages, you'll see the magic code that describes each transaction.

For example, the skip link says: https://permies.com/pp/800/SKIP-super-earlybird (earlier today, it said https://permies.com/pp/1000/SKIP-super-earlybird. This was entirely my fault, but I do all my work while caring for my 3 year old and 6 year old. So, while I double and triple check everything, sometimes I miss something. I am very sorry.).

The bootcamp link says https://permies.com/pp/100/Bootcamp-1-person

The links are formatted that way so that, when Paul gets a payment, it tells him what the money it's for. That's how he knows that you clicked the SKIP link. And the pages do look a bit similar, and $1,000 looks a lot like $100. So, it looks like we both made mistakes that made this all happen. We're human, and things happen. Life is rather crazy for all of us (I know it is for Paul and I, and 2020 has definitely been an insane year for most everyone).

I suspect that in the next few days, I might be sending out an email to the waiting list.

In that email, I suspect that two people will be invited to come to the bootcamp provided that:

 - they arrive mid afternoon on October 25

 - they are cool with taking a top bunk in the bunk room
