The traditional wick in the UK for an oil lamp was a peeled reed, the sort with the foamy pith. I tried peeling ones a few times, but there must be a knack to it, since all mine broke. I found a site: old and interesting that has some info. It doesn't sound like the results are as good as a candle. Probably a better wick would be a candle wick, but maybe that uses the oil too quickly.
As far as your "Why" Dez, I've heard that your presence has been a big positive influence to those around you. Increasing happiness and joy in others, balanced with doing what makes you happy and joyful, seems like a great "Why"!

POST 456 (DAY 466, Thursday, 2021.11.18)
[Morning Entry]
…..grateful for modern amenities and homestead living.. grateful for friends who care.. grateful for tough times.. my old mentor said that feeling down is often a call to action.. to go and be encouraging to someone else.. in other words, nothing else will bring me out of my own funk like offering kindness to a friend.. I still rely on this proven method to help me refocus, when I feel alone or sad.. thank you..
Greg, Nancy—thanks! More food for experiments.. muhaha~~

This must be the "underside decking" referred to in Mag B's thread, yes??......Out of curiousity is the wood treated in any way? It does not look like standard 1X4 lumber. Thanks!
Wicked Witch theme in the red cabin photos is infectious.....any notion of keeping a permanent pair sticking out from under the cabin for fun. I saw a Halloween prop similar to the pair below being sold through some retailer....can't recall which one or "which witch". ;o)

[Morning Entry]
…..grateful for sleeping in an extra hour.. aka “a morning nap”.. dunno why that return to closed eyes at 5am feels so sweet.. I relish it dearly.. then get up shortly after to meet the seat.. grateful for regularity.. grateful for organic food—I think it really has made a difference for me in a way that I never knew could: eating organic.. my body seems more resilient than it did when I first arrived..

Just a slight breeze ore more limbs on the back side can keep the tree standing on the cut and not falling over the wedge cut. That is why fellers carry a plastic wedge to drive into the cut to start the momentum of fall.
