Hi, just posted this on the Exit and Build page, but access to Day 3 of the summit available in a stretch goal would be really awesome. Not sure if that would be possible, but wishful thinking on my part as I am highly interested in the summit and would love to have access to all three days.

Woke up with this classic running in my head this morning.

I think it has something to do with the stretch goal we're working towards.

I'm thinking about putting together some "backer stories" from folks who are invested in the project, the campaign, or rocket mass heaters in general.  If you wanna tell your backer story, reply here and let me know 1) why you are backing this project, 2) what your history is with (or where you first became aware of) rocket mass heaters, and 3) what's the reward (apart from the main movie) that you're most excited about getting!

I'm backing this project because I'm hoping to learn a lot from the movie about how I can build and use one for my family. I like the idea of them but feel pretty overwhelmed when I try to think about how to actually make it a reality. So I'm hoping seeing the video will help me and my husband have a better understanding.

I first heard about the concept (not by that name) was in high school learning about Chinese culture and history and I learned about the kang (bed stove). I thought it was an awesome idea and so efficient! I think the first time I heard the name rocket mass heater was probably in tiny ads on permies. Either that or watching/reading about cob houses.

Which reward I'm most excited about? All of them but probably the stuff about rocket ovens.

I first learned about rocket mass heaters here on Permies. I'm backing this because I need to get a low-cost heater into my small cottage in Bulgaria and it's in an area that doesn't have a lot of forest nearby for firewood. If I can use coppiced sticks from my own trees to warm the main rooms instead of buying trucked in firewood, that would be wonderful. Though I have Erica and Ernie's excellent book, I want to learn as much as I can before I start to build.
Also, I really want the plans for the Lorena stove for my outdoor kitchen!

I'm backing the project because mass heaters (especially ones that heat water) are dovetailed nicely with an energy project that I'm in the midst of cooking up - Its primarily solar water heating, but having the ability to get 140F+ water by burning fuel will keep the electricity going, even when the sun isn't shining.  Storing power as heat in a thermal mass means less mining/refining/recycling of heavy metals for batteries, a good deal all around.  The movie, plans, ect are all wonderful, and I'll get good use out of them .. but I would be lying if I didn't say that getting to see "Green Country Agroforestry" in the credits doesn't tickle my fancy, too 😉

I found about rocket mass heaters here at permies! Im very interested in the rockety function for other purposes other than mass heating cause I live in a very warm climate but the technology is very versatile and can solve so many problems. Specifically I want to learn as much as I can on how it can be adapted for cooking cause here in rural Colombia people mostly cook with wood and the smoke causes a lot of illness specially for vulnerable communities who also mismanage the trees as a resource. The Lorena option for the rocket cooktop looks like a huge step forward!!

We have a new stretch goal!

Paul's in the air coming back from Exit & Build, but he hopped on the interwebs from the airport to say -

If we hit $40k, we'll give away 6 tickets to this year's Permaculture Technology Jamboree at Wheaton Labs! Everyone at or above the $100 backer level will be eligible to win a ticket.
