In another thread, somebody asked

why do you conflate the willow feeder Kickstarter with the toxin reduction thing?

And i posted the answer here

$16,406 ....    "406" is the only area code for all of montana.  So montana does a lot of "406" love.

Plus, if i happen to wake up at 4:06am (once or twice a week), I just feel like it is gonna be a great day!

How Apartment Dwellers Can Help Our Waterways and Themselves

reduce the toxicity involving
- laundry 95%
- washing dishes 95%
- shower 100%
- bathroom sink 95%
- general cleaning 95%

Along the way, these same changes will improve your health, longevity and give you a bonus 30 IQ points. Oh! And save big money.

I think it will be a breeze to cut your toxicity by 95% pretty much overnight.  After a few months of that, you can begin to contemplate the next steps.  In a year or two, you might be ready to get your head wrapped around a willow feeder - why it exists and how it generally works.  Kinda like how there is space in your brain for why a nuclear reactor exists and how it generally works - even though you will never build one.

I am so glad that so many of you watched the chemerical movie - would you agree that the mom in that movie gained 30 IQ points?  A step beyond that is Raven Ranson's book "Clean With Cleanters You Can Eat"

https://permies.com/wiki/edible-clean
https://permies.com/wiki/chemerical

Shower:   for 15 years I have taken a "pure water" shower every day.  Zero shampoo or soap (aka "poo-less").  I cannot imagine ever going back.  The poo-less thread at permies is ten pages long, featuring people talking about trying it.  It has 310,681 views - one of our most popular threads!

https://permies.com/wiki/pooless

The willow feeder movie and ebook are all about this path to toxin reduction.  This is why the project is called "Cleaning our Rivers and Oceans from Home".

Vickey, at Paul's Kickstarter page, there's a green button on the upper right side. Click that and it will take you to a page where you can choose to change your pledge. The options are to change the rewards category or simply add a bonus pledge of whatever amount you wish.

Bumped mine up. I'm sure the kickstarter will at least meet its goal. Hope it does more than that.

For everyone who has not donated or upper their donation... I have a challenge, If an old lady living on Social Security in an expensive place like Alaska can donate and increase my donation, knowing I will likely never build one of these. I challenge you all to pledge at least a dollar, more if you can. That's  not much, probably less than a cup of coffee even where you are.  Let's make this happen.

We now have less than $1000 to go to get funded!

We started the kickstarter and got about $9000 right away.  If I do nothing, it seems we get about $50 a day.  If I share bit more info, or write a little article or something, it seems to add a $50 to $200 more.

We have $1000 to go and 15 days to go.  If we get $50 per day, that will add $750.  Not enough.  So I guess we need to think of some more stuff ...

Suggestions?

The concept is called willow feeder. Question:
What is it about a willow tree that makes it a good beast for this willow feeder system?
Thanks Scott

Hello Scott!

A willow tree has a huge capacity to take up nutrients.   As you spread this nutrient rich mulch under the tree the roots mass will develop to absorb more and more nutrients.  All that nitrogen gives the tree quick, luxuriant growth.

The soils around the tree will retain more water as the percentage of organic matter rises.

You could use any tree or landscaping bushes to be the recipients of this material but a willow tree has one of the fastest conversion rates for taking up nitrogen and transforming it into leaves and branches.

Permaculture is about making a nice place to live and big shady trees go a long way toward making a house a home.

Thank you for your support!

Hello Timothy!

That is a great idea.
A fund-a-thon would be so fun!!

I would love to hear from folks who have built these systems and have them functioning on their property in different environments.

The willow feeder is really just the beginning of a whole integrated system you can develop.  Once the poop is taken care of and we know how to live with no harsh chemicals in our life, we can branch out into all the fun of gray-water systems and mulch pits for our showers and laundry.  There are so many ways to stack functions once we can use these nutrients.

We could talk about the greenhouse at Wheaton Labs!   The gray water from Allerton Abbey flows into the grow beds in the Truly Passive Greenhouse.  The system works all year, even in our cold Montana winters!

Well I put my bit in the Kickstarter to help get it closer to reaching the goal. I see it's less than $500 to being at the goal today.
I think it would be possible for an outdoor one here, as I am in the country. Not sure I would want one in the house. I have considered the style that offgridwithdougandstacy.com have. It uses sawdust to eliminate the smell. You still need to lug 5 gallon buckets once a week. Or two. Doug has a video that he takes viewers through the process. Once a year he dumps the buckets out and scrubs them out. Puts the mixture in a compost pile, let's it percolate for awhile.
.
I would love to see a piece done on the Australian worm septic tank system. Red wrigglers going to town on poop and TP. If I remember right, it's a patented system down under. And someone used a large Coleman style cooler to make one for their cabin. Oh, and it flushes like our regular toilets. There's like a sponge layer to allow fluids to soak thru.
They installed on at a busy bar, and it had no problems keeping up with "the flow."
.
Anyway I don't think you'll have a problem reaching the Kickstarter goal so an early congratulations is in order.
.
