The oil used was olive. I am saddened by the loss of that vibrant color, but I'm far lore likely to use a salve than an oil. The blend ratio I used was 4 parts oil to one part bee wax.

I turned my plantain oil into salve by adding beeswax. I wanted a soft salve, so I used a ratio of approximately 6:1, oil to wax.

For the oil, I harvested plantain, chickweed, and a little purple dead nettle and let them wilt for a few hours. Then I infused them in coconut oil over gentle heat for 24 hours.

I made plantain salve using the recipe from Practical Self-Reliance (1 1/2 to 2 cups fresh plantain herb
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups Olive oil (or other neutral oil)
1 ounce Bees Wax)

I gathered plantain leaves at a friend’s house on April 13th, and refrigerated them covered with paper towels until I was at liberty to process them. On April 15th, I washed, surface-dried, chopped, and steeped them in jars of extra-virgin olive oil over a double-boiler on the stove for a 48-hour hot infusion. The next morning, I filtered out the leaves, poured the oil into a saucepan, and melted in a little over an ounce of beeswax, stirring well. I poured the liquid salve into clean jars and labeled them for storage.

Note: some of the leaves were wilted and darkened after refrigeration for two days, so I sorted them out and added some more I had picked later from my Mom’s yard

I harvested and air dried plantain over the summer. Then I crushed the dried leaves, submerged it in 100g of EVOO, and baked at 180degF for 12 hours. I then strained the oil, heated it in a double broiled, and added 15g of beeswax until homogenous. Then I poured some of it into a mold, cooled it and put it in a labeled container.
