We have a black rug inside the garage door because oil and grease find their way with a mechanic in the house.

I put the rug up on the play set beam and beat it with a broom. It kept falling off so I tried the clothes line. Still problematic. Then I tried a chain link fence. Not falling as much but it wasn’t throwing dust like it was when I had it suspended. I ended up holding it a bit and that helped.

Left in the sun to kill any germs for 3 hours and hope it didn’t fade the coloring.

Never beat a rug before, but I'm betting I got more out of it than my vacuum cleaner has previously. This rug is in our mudroom and takes the biggest beating multiple times a day.

I'm cleaning this rug from the garage that the dogs use.  I didn't see as much debris coming off until I stood down wind ..cough, cough.  Works good...lol!  Cleaning it then waiting for the sun to crest the Pecan trees and shine on the rug.
I'll be sweeping it off after it sits in the sun to clean off any residual dog hair.

Where the rug lives.

The rug draped over a bike rack and the bat to clean it with.  I've faced the rug towards the south sun.

YouTube video of me cleaning rug
A short video showing me cleaning the rug...one handed, just for show.  The real beating came after the video!  lol

The time the rug began sanitizing in the sun.

Nice clean rug back in its place.

Our rug really needed cleaning. I took it outside and draped it over the swing, then I beat it with both ends of a broom. Lots of cat hair went everywhere. I let it sit for more than 2 hours in the sun, then brought it in and vacuumed it.

I beat the rug and shook it out. It was in the sun for at least two hours. The last pic shows the shadow of the garage which was not in the first pic.

We had beautiful sunny and breezy day perfect for rug cleaning!

Front door rug was taken outside and beat with a stick and brushed off, then it sat in the sun nearly four hours (note the shadow of the table has become quite long)
