Throw those bad boys into some pancake batter! What a treat!

I had to be different from my brother as a child, he would get chocolate chips in his pancakes and I would always get blueberries. So good.

Wild lowbush berries, trailside, right off the plant and into my mouth. Hopefully they're starting to dry a little because it's late in the season.

I'm specifically thinking about the bushes that grow around the rocky edges of this granite clearing (Right here, if anyone needs that much precision: https://maps.app.goo.gl/AstCaUQdZQMjLZzJ8):

We do not have wild blueberries in Montana.
But plenty of organic growers with commercial strains.
My current favorite way to eat blueberries is in smoothies, blended with yogurt and apple juice.

Raw! I can eat so many blueberries raw with nothing else.

I like to make lots of blueberry sauce and preserve it for the winter months. It's really lovely on porridge, or for blueberry crumble.

Blueberry muffins are probably my favourite kind of muffin too.

I grew up in Newfoundland and low bush blueberries, wild picked off the barrens, was our main winter fruit. (Frozen)
Crumble is always my fave. Pie is good, but those were so intense that my mother always liked to cut them with some apple to reduce the sweetness.
I liked taking a bowl from the freezer and pouring some milk and vanilla over them and then waiting a couple of minutes until it all went slushy like a thick milkshake.

Fresh off the bush is hard to beat. Although I always end up with fewer than expected because half of them disappear before they make it inside.

I have tried every imaginable fruit for this, but I think that blueberries make the best wine I've ever had!

We used to fill the freezer mid-late summer from thickets between forest & swamp.  Then through winter our mother would make German pancakes, sprinkling berries on while batter was liquid, flip as it solidified.  They'd get embedded, melt & burst, spread a little into the pancake.  The range of textures & flavours was exquisite.  Couldn't get enough.

best time to plant a tree was yesterday, next best is every day

Love them almost any way. The last few years, I’ve gotten to like them in more savory dishes. Through blueberries into wild rice pilaf at the end of cooking, for example.  A relative of mine often brings an arugula-sweet corn-blueberry salad to potlucks. It’s amazing.
