After a 5 year run, this BRK is now the BEL (Bootcamp Experience Log)

As many of you might know, we have a Biological Reverse Kickstarter. Basically, it's a way for people to pledge money or things in exchange for people to do something at Wheaton Labs. There's an awesome long list of these pledges here.

We wanted to make one BIG, special Biological Reverse Kickstarter for Boots who stick around! (Here's more information about Bootcamp at Wheaton Labs.) We wanted it easy for prospective Boots to see. We wanted to reward people who have posted so much, and to reward people for coming back and posting more whenever they can.

comment below to make your pledge

Boots -- 100 days of media (Each day is three pictures /one video footage of their experience in Wheaton Labs' Permaculture Bootcamp. Each post must clearly state the BRK post # but days do not have to be consecutive.  And it is repeatable - 200 days, 300 days, etc. An example of such a thread is SEPP to Boot Stephen Experience BRK

  • A New Way to Help! - Donate Up Front

Some people have expressed a desire to be able to put up money today, towards accomplishments that happen later on.  Julia Winter, senior staff member, has volunteered to take and hold donations, then distribute them personally to boots that fulfill the wish of the donor.

So, if this is more appealing to you than signing up for intermittent obligations, great!  You just send money to Julia's PayPal account:

    https://paypal.me/juliawinterbrk?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US

Please include what you want your moolah to support.  Is it $25/completed BRK, until the money runs out?  Or $200 for a video updating us on all the projects from the rocket mass heater jamboree?  Or $50 for a tour of all the places that boots sleep?  What are you hoping to see?  Put your money where your mouth is!

If you would like to pledge toward a Boot in this way, just reply to this thread with how much you'd like to pledge! It can be $1, $5, a hat, $40, or something else! Every little bit adds up! If you'd like to pledge anonymously, just PM me!

Pledge as you can, I'll manually certify the project is completed (the Biological part of things), verification that the means for the Pledge are still there,  the desire is still there, that the project meets the expectation, and then I'll arrange for transfer of funds/delivery of goods.

And, if there's a specific task you'd rather see a Boot or other Wheaton Lab's resident do, feel free to post about it and pledge over at the main  Biological Reverse Kickstarter page!

I am hopeful that we can get this to go over $1500!

This might be a good time to point out that pledging costs nothing.   And if the time comes to pay up, and your circumstances have changed, no worries - nobody will be tracking this down or anything like that.

    Darn It!

I'd LIKE to pledge at least $25 to the cause, but my budget is really strapped right now. I'm making the big move to my undeveloped off-grid property, and I have no idea what unseen thing(s) are going to take a huge bite out of my meager, bare-bones budget. For me, it's just bad timing.

You can send it to the person via a check (either I can get their info and send it to you, or you can ask them for the info), or just send it via paypal. It'll be based on what is the most comfortable for the sender and receiver. When fulfilling pledges in the big Biological Reverse Kickstarter, everyone chose to use paypal to send money. Those making objects are double-checking wih Robbie for his physical address when the objects are done (I'm still working on his felt figurine and dragon).

I think anonymous senders are sending me the money and I then send it on to the person who completed the reward. That's what "Anon" and I did when Robbie completed rewards in in the big Biological Reverse Kickstarter page.

I will send something, not sure exactly what yet, depends on when it is. Likely a bar of homemade soap plus either a home canned/home cooked treat or sewn item like a cloth bag, etc... So basically a couple surprise treats

I am hopeful that the bootcamp will quickly become full and then we get a nice, long waiting list.   If that is the case, I am hopeful that we finish up the berm shed and allerton abbey and a few other things and then move on to the freezer wofati.

And then two years from now, ant village will be heavily populated with people that know how to do these things are on a pace to get a lot of hard work done.

Robbie is about 19 days in.  My guess is that his pace will be to take 120 days to hit 100 days of media rich posts.   Jaqi has three or four posts so far, but I kinda get the impression that her plans are not to go the full 100 days.

Plus, you can cancel your pledge at any time.  So maybe you encourage two or three boots and then cancel or reduce your pledge.

    Nicole,

I have just now received $1000 to be put to where I think it would do the most good for wheaton labs.  And I think that this spot is the best spot.

Maybe it could be $200 added to this BRK, for up to five times?

Maybe this could be "from" "Anon A & D" - and I will forward the funds when the time is right?

If you are cool with this, I think this brings the total to $1265 plus 2 bonus gifts plus two care packages?

So I knitted a woolen hat for Robbie. He got it, because he met the requirements (is that the right word?).
But now there is Dave. He posts even more photos and videos! But he made his own hat, which he showed. He knows how to knit and crochet, it would be a bad idea to send him something knitted all the way from Europe.
Maybe I can fill a small box, call it a 'care packet', with some stuff you (not only the boots, but others like Fred, Coco, Jocelyn and Paul too) can use? Maybe some special products of the Netherlands which are difficult to find in the USA?

I think I understand what you are suggesting:  let dave be the generous gift giver?

We recently received a care package full of books.   We don't even know who sent it.   And another person sent a box full of tools from a garage sale.  Su Ba has sent many packages from hawaii - including chocolate covered macadamia nuts and lots of warm clothes.  It does seem odd that she is sending warm clothes from hawaii!   One guy sent two boxes filled with DVDs - for evening entertainment!  Somebody sent a box of naturally dyed wood yarns and lots of knitters and crotche-ers have used up nearly all of that wool.

I'm asking jocelyn and she is suggesting handkerchiefs and travel mugs.

I don't know what a specialty item from the netherlands would be.  ??

Hi Paul. I thought of a box filled with stuff you all can use, so 'for general use'. It popped up, without me having an exact idea what to send.
I can send some of the home spun wool from the 'Deventer schaapskudde' project. So then the knitters and crochet-ers will have new yarns. It's all undyed, from white and black sheep. I will do some research to find more possible gifts. Of course they need to meet your standards. So no 'stroopwafels' (one of the most famous Dutch products).

I don’t know what would be useful for other people. So, I will just speak for myself.

I would find a variety of autumn and winter planting cold climate seeds and tubers useful for when I eventually start doing stuff on my plot. I’m particular, if it is considered a tasty edible “invasive” plant that would be awesome, because I think that the qualities of an “invasive” or pioneering plant would be good for getting things started.

I think that long thick wool socks would be useful.

I would not call this useful, but it is something I enjoy. I enjoy very dark chocolates.

Hi Dave. You are not yet such a skilled knitter who can knit his own socks. So maybe that will be an idea: I know how to knit socks. It will take some time of course.
And bulbs (not tubers), that's a Dutch specialty too. When you want them to be edible, probably they will be of the onion (allium) family. As far as I know you can plant them in early spring.
About chocolate: I know a brand that's made in Amsterdam, of course the cocoa isn't produced there, The special thing about it is: it's shipped from the Caribbean by a real sailing schooner!

Dave can you send me a PM please with the length of your feet (measured under the sole) in inches? And tell me how long you want the socks to be.
