I recently got back into RuneScape, and while my new character is extremely low level, I thought it might be fun to play with some folks.

Wow, that’s a blast from the past. Didn’t know it was still going. I quit fifteen years ago after getting my slayer cape.

Now I collect PEP badges instead!

Funny to think they’re both just pixels. I prefer badges here. Have fun . . . I’ll pass.

Yes, mostly I train PEP instead of RuneScape crafting and farming, but Duke Paul hasn't come up with a monster-slaying badge yet, and as I don't know any local people in SKIP I can work on badges with in person, I thought playing online might be a fun way to make friends when I'm tired of grinding ax blades and watering vegetables in solitude.

Right now I'm just working on a PEP Textiles apron and watching x-files, which is I'm sure a more productive pass-time than MMORPGs, but less social

OK, so find some permies who do zoom and schedule a "sew and zoom" session for 45 min or so?  I bet you'd find takers. I wouldn't focus it on PEP, but just the general fiber arts forum. I suspect a thread here: https://permies.com/f/374/sewing would get both PEPPERs and some of our general sewers.

If you do decide to try and set such a thing up, post the info here to make sure I see it, as I'm heavily involved in getting the dailyish out, and I would put your thread in it so people would see it and improve your odds of getting some interest. Do remember that we cover a large territory, so make sure you're clear about your time zone!

There was a thread on Dungeons and Dragons by r ranson a while back.

As I mentioned there I would probably be interested in running an internet based D&D campaign (short or long) for interested permies.

I might even theme it with permaculture motifs.

I'd like to do some more social gaming too, but pandemic makes it tough sometimes and I don't do video games anymore either.

I am... however not there yet. I have a 30 month course of study coming up and will be doing that while I work a few part time jobs and manage my home and garden, and raise kids... and all the other things.

So maybe in 2-3 years for me. Maybe someone else will initiate such a permies RPG group before I get there though.

I grew up in Cambridge, where Jagex is based. It was really common for kids to play RuneScape and I have a lot of fond memories of it. As an adult, I dipped back into it for a year or so and I finally got a level 99, my childhood self would be so proud. It was farming, obviously!

Like others have said, I prefer to spend my time working towards "real" goals. I think the PEP scheme (which my partner and I refer to as "geeky Internet scout badges") is a great way to encourage that.

Small-holding, coppice and grassland management on a 16-acre site.

Every time I work on the house, my wife asks "did you get a badge?". Gamifying house renovation for the win!

Haha. Especially last year when I was more actively pursuing BBs, any time I was doing anything she thought was a little weird, she'd ask if I was getting a BB for that.
