Today I carved a spoon with which to eat my lunch!

I started with a green ash branch cut from the front yard:

Here is the branch after rough shaping with the hatchet. Moving on to the knives.

The finished product!

A delicious meal =)

First time using my beaver craft knife, ended up using a lot of other tools too!

BBV price: 1
Note: Per the requirements:  It should be of useful size and shape, smooth and something you might actually use.  Since it's so small, you need to make up for that by making it particularly useful and smooth and desireable to use.

Bryan, that's a great start! Both mine and R Ranson's looked like that, and we just kept working at it to get it nice and smooth and usable. Here's a before/after of ours, in case it helps!

Thanks for the encouragement Nicole! I worked on it this morning and it is now pretty decent. Next time I would choose a bigger piece of wood without any knots, but I decided to use the knot as part of the handle and something to keep the spoon end from touching the table when at rest.

It is quite small so you wouldn't eat soup with it, but it's the perfect size (1/8 tsp) to measure out the salt I mix with the water I drink.

Yes and no.  Linking is great but you still need to post the required photos or video here so that it's easier on the certifiers.  I'll hit a secret button to undo your submission above so you can repost it again as a BB submission.  Thx!

Sorry about that then.

I've carved two recently. I'm still sanding them and burnishing them, and will probably oil with perilla oil, but the BB requirements are done.

Nicole Alderman wrote:Does this count as a "big, ugly, nearly useless spoon using only hand tools"?  Made it today and had to stop early because, well, I cut myself and was bleeding thtough the bandage onto the spoon, and so figured I should stop....

(I just ahve to say, I've wanted to carve a spoon since I was a kid, and got the mora spoon carving tool about 4 years ago for my birthday. Of course I've had babies and toddlers that whole time, and so never got around to finally carving a spoon. This Badge Bit worked as excellent motivation for me!)

This was carved from a dwarf apple tree that died almost 2 winters ago from the weight of snow. It's been sitting outside, soggy wet. I brought it inside and carved this spoon from it
