BRK Post 64

Slow day here. Started with pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Man it's nice living with the other boots.

Did an oil change for my truck, some laundry.  Got a bit of gardening in, I expect I'll be fetching water on Monday and i won't get to any hands on gardening done then.

I found a bunch of seeds in the boots seed box. Chose to plant more beans, peas, and corn. I have Pearl Sutton to thank for these seeds in particular. Those are soaking overnight and I'm going to plant them tomorrow.

I noticed the current bush on my garden plot is going from flowering to developing fruit. Have a close up picture of the little fruits.

Lots of sprouts, I'm going to need to thin a lot of them so a few can grow larger.

Hi Fabian, I'm trying to post everyday. There's so much going on here and I want to be able to look back and see all the projects I worked on.

BRK Post 65

Spent the morning scoping out a plot. My main goal is to build a pond and I think this one will do nicely.

On my walk I spotted this huge ant. At least I think it is an ant. It looks like an ant. But it's the size of my thumb. Can anyone identify it?

Planted the seeds I was soaking, peas, beans, corn, and squash. I'm excited to grow the corn, its painted mountain corn and I've always wanted the space to try growing it.

Then I made dinner at Cooper Cabin. Pasta with sauteed veggies. Josiah harvested some Fried Chicken Mushrooms. They were great, and did have a bit of fried chicken flavor.

Ended the night by trying to get my draw knife sharp again. The black locust wood has been very hard on the edge. A previous owner had sharpened the back side of it... I still have to take a deep breath every time I try to sharpen it. I will curse his name and progeny until I've ground down the micro bevel he made.

Did a decent job. Going to take many more times until it takes an edge the way I want but I'll get there.

For the "ant" you saw, no, it’s definitely not an ant. It's a kind of beetle. With some closer photos, one could identify it...

Good job on the draw knife. Take the bevel as a "sharpening learning occasion"! Always try to see the positive in a situation!
