Do you self-talk, whistle, hum, or ramble while you work?

none of those, but i do sing (out loud) to myself while working fairly regularly. i’ve been working on prepping beds for tea to be planted in, and tom waits’ ‘christmas card from a hooker in minneapolis’ has been in frequent rotation for some reason. sometimes it’s songs i wrote, too.

Oh yeah, I sing whatever is stuck in my head too. Usually some song my kids listen to on repeat.

"Aruko, aruko, watashi wa genki. Arukuno daisuki, don don aruko!" Or some such.

Outside, on my property, I talk to myself. I I talk to my dogs.  I talk to my cats . …..

Yeah, and sometimes I argue with myself and lose the argument….

Ha Ha Oh Yeah... you bet I talk to myself, and the dog, and the cats, even inanimate objects like fence posts!
Working on cars I always have a running commentary going, which usually includes naming myself or the car owner a dumb ass.
And yes there is generally some song or another bebopping in my head at the same time...
Good thing I was born in June.
As a Gemini, there are two of me in my head at all times.
Makes it much easier to deal with duplicity!

Definitely!
I talk to the plants, the cat, the birds, the bugs, my tools, the machine I'm working on....
I tell them stories, explain what I am doing and what they can expect from it, thank them for what they do for me.

I sing, some are things I know, quite often it's songs made up on the spot, to the tune and pattern of a song in my head... I'm really fast at making them up. Some I remember later, most I forget as soon as I have sung them.

One that I kept and refined, to the tune of "Feelin' Groovy"

Feelin’ Wussy

I’ve got to:
Slow down, don’t move so fast,
I’ve got to make my energy last,
Just staggering around my property,
Trying to work and feeling wussy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' wussy...

Hey elderberry, how you growing?
I’m glad to see you while I’m mowing!
Working on the property
Getting it done, but feeling wussy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' wussy....

I’ve got a lot of work to do
Promises to keep
I’m tired and cranky and wish I could sleep
On my hammock layin’ in the sun!
Love my garden,
But I feel wussy...

I argue with myself and give up when it becomes clear that neither of us knows what we're talking about.

I'm right there with Pearl. Everything gets talked to, told stories, and exposed to whatever I'm ear-wormed with that day and my made up songs. Birds seem to appreciate it, and more than one outdoors cat has come closer with a serious case of question-mark butt to investigate.

Yup. Hello, bumblebees, I'm glad you're finding some lovely snacks in our flowers. Etc.

I have to be a bit careful when people visit. If I was pushing a shopping cart, people might jump to conclusions.

Oh, yeh! Nothing is exempt from my 'working through it' ramblings. There's always a song running through my thought river, and depending on what's going on, there may be cussing, grumbling, or conversations I may or may not have had (or want to have - good OR bad), expressions of gratitude, stuff that pops up, in my memories, etc. It's not too surprising for John to come around a corner, and hear me saying to whatever critter I'm dealing with, "did I ever tell you about the time..." or to whatever project I'm working on, something along the lines of, "you can fight me all you want - but I WILL win this war!", or just singing to anyone or no one in particular...

I have been reading these, and I do this, too! Especially the talking to whatever I am working with, 'encouraging' whatever it is to work with me, and if it doesn't, I usually get to the point of " I may not win the battle, but I WILL WIN THE WAR!"  and  that usually has my husband peeking his head around the corner to see if I need help..*LOL*

But I also sing, talk to myself ( hey, we all need expert advice, and usually, *I* am the expert! lol) , talk to plants, play music and sing along, etc, etc...good to know that I am not the only one who does these things.

Surely all pet owners talk to their dogs and cats and gardeners converse with their trees and plants😉🥰

Personally I design and redesign stuff if I am in a brain dead operation that only needs muscles or simply presence.  Some self talk if a chore that requires some thought but not enough.

I once knew a fellow who tried to strike up a conversation with the trees, but they never seemed to listen. Another chap tried to engage in debate with the stars but, apparently because of the huge distances involved, they couldn't hear him. A third fellow successfully talked to the breeze, but it was always too busy to respond.

Hehe, I do this all the time. Hauling firewood, singing little songs in funny voices, laughing myself to tears. Gotta just coach myself through every task. Plus, I'm an animist, so talking to objects is kind of par for the course I guess. (I say this to make myself feel better about probably being insane.)

I listen to music or podcasts on a Bluetooth speaker while I am working. Otherwise I definitely self-talk, or get random annoying bits of songs on repeat in my head, both of which I find distracting

Sometimes I sing out loud, other times I just listen to the music in my head. I often talk to animals, plants, and inanimate objects. Sometimes I pray, and just as often, I curse.. just depends what is going on, and how I’m feeling at that moment.

I mostly sing bluegrass tunes (that I usually have playing over the speaker) in my yankee-be-south country accents...

I do indeed talk to the chickens, but it's not usually about anything too complex.

Yes....finally got out this weekend to talk to the large and isolated oak trees some distance through the snow and beyond the property line.  If I'm doing crazy circles on my tractor, having become too immersed in wide-eyed maniacal laughter due to the temps topping out at 0F and the driveway being drifted in...

ONE....

TIME!....

pretty much the geese, dogs, and trees are the only things that can talk me down!

See ya later boys, I think I'm in love. Oh wait, she's just a tiny ad:
