I wonder if there's a bug in the apple giving system. I just tried to give an apple to a post. First time I clicked the apple button nothing happened, second time nothing happened, and third time it put out three apples! Not that I mind, hope it makes the person who wrote the post happy, but thought I'd mention it. I'm just a pollinator, so shouldn't be able to give more than one apple a day, right? Unless I was unknowingly promoted to staff?

Probably what happened is someone else gave the post an apple at the same time you were trying to give the apple.

That happens to me a lot.

Maybe, but three of them showed up all at once when I clicked the button the third time. Very good timing, if that was what it was.

Actually it does look like you awarded 1, and then 2, to the same person for the same post.

Thanks for telling us! Not sure what happened but I think we should probably have a look at what's going on.

Hi Eino,
Can you see how many apples you are able to give out? Another one, or more?

(still trying to work out the glitch!)

I think this might have happened to me the other day. I assumed that I had been on the page long enough that it was just behind and lagged when I first clicked it, and then updated afterwards. The first click did nothing. I waited at least several seconds, clicked again, waited a few more seconds, and then two popped up. Since I had the page open for a bit I wasn't really certain what had happened. I just tried again and didn't see any issue, but I just rebooted my computer and don't have many tabs open at the moment.

I've have also had a lag issue a number of times where the thumbs up wouldn't appear to go through, but I don't recall ever seeing it go up by more than one once it went through. Again, I merely thought it was something on my end not updating quickly.

It didn't do it when I purposely tried giving two apples earlier today (in the name of science!), so I was thinking maybe it had something to do with a combination of the saved login, plus the computer being up for several hours and over a dozen tabs going. I believe I can only give out one a day? I'm not completely certain. I just remember hitting it once and it not seeming to register, which had happened with the like button in the past on rare occasion, but I had never seen it jump from none to two like that before. I really don't know much of anything about the web/programming side of things. Plus I've heard of lots of YouTubers recently having login tokens hacked and people fighting against that, so I wasn't sure if recent changes under the hood in Firefox or on websites might be related to the recent slowdowns.

I use Firefox on Linux and have it set to save my tabs, so if I start to notice slowdowns I will finish what I'm doing and shut down Firefox, and if it looks like I still have high RAM usage I will reboot my computer. I've been noticing more slowdowns from the internet in general, so I've been rebooting more frequently to avoid problems.

I'm digging back through stuff and it says I gave out 2 apples on March 7th on this thread:

DIY Steel melting foundry

I have a bit of brain damage, so I was confused when it happened, more confused when I saw this thread, and infinitely confused now! If I'm only supposed to be able to give one apple a day then that thread might be something to look in to.

As Master pollinator I get to give 3 apples each day. In the name of science, I tried to give an extra one out. No luck.

Sorry, didn't see this until now. Yesterday I couldn't give out any more apples beyond the three anomalous ones. I will try today and see what happens...

Okay... I seem to be able to give any number of apples to any one post if I click the apple button repeatedly in quick succession (5 just now) but then I still can not give any apples to any other post. Seems like the issue is that the system doesn't differentiate between one apple and several, but it still knows that I have "appled" a post previously today. Weird...

Edit to say that I can not give more apples to the same post once I've left the thread and come back, and that the anomalous apples don't show up in the thread's apple count. Forgot to check how many apples the poster had before, to see if the anomalous ones are included in their personal apple count or if it's just that too many apple symbols are added to the post?

Thank you all for testing - looks like there is a little glitch. We're investigating now. I think try and stay to just the single apple now if you can!
We'll let you all know if we need more help.

Ah i'm glad to see this thread! This happened to me the other day when I was on mobile. I notice there's often a lag so I try to not push it, lol. I've been blaming my own connection for it, maybe for once that's not the reason!

Sorry R, looks like you just got 3 more apples.

Edit: it looks like if you navigate away from the page and back to it, you can’t add any extra apples.

I think it may be Microsoft. they keep making the cursor more sensitive so if it stays on the apple it clicks repeatedly. It is happening to me opening multiple tabs.

I think it's related to the double post error we get about the same time.  It's like a lag.

It's been tricky and taking some creative problem solving

Do you get a notification per apple or just per post?

I seem to have accidentally given someone 3 apples just now -- sorry team!

Is there somewhere these accidents are getting reported/fixed, or are the extra apples ok to stay on?

Five! I mean, I love apples, but that was a bit of an embarrassment of riches.

I thought the issue had been fixed but apparently not. And despite having a goodly supply of magic buttons, it seems I do not actually have the ability to remove apples from my own posts. Maybe another staff member can?

I just gave 2 too many! So bug is not resolved

Also why do sometime I get name of someone who liked my post and other times it just says 'someone'?

Hmmm... I think you can just go ahead and be embarrassed because I know you have at least 5 Dragons helping with your Walker cook-stove build and I think they deserve extra apples for all the supervising they're doing! (Sort of like the Muscovy ducks that were helping me with the BB I posted last night - they would LOVE some extra apples and would chomp them right up.)

Well the next stage involves putting the support sheet down ready to build the core on.

I think maybe they'll end up using it as a picnic table and have a bit of an apple-fest to celebrate.

They also seem to have a plan involving sending the most serpentine-looking dragon on a time-lapse run through it to illustrate the air flow. I've noticed them listening The Doors' "Light My Fire" rather a lot lately and have my suspicions it's gonna be the backing track...

This is Serra, the matriarch of the family, emerging from the bottom of the side channel. She's just decided against going into the bench and is about to start rising to the top of the main chamber until she hits the bottom of the plate that supports the core. From there she can't get much higher and will eventually sink again as she is displaced by more hot air and exit via the chimney. Then she will presumably get higher again until she escapes into the night. Where hopefully she will be fully combusted and NOT set the night on fire!
