Millions of people are blocked from homesteading because of the sheer expense of getting started.  And millions of elderly people are frustrated that they cannot find somebody worthy to pass their homestead to.  Every year hundreds of thousands of homesteads are abandoned - with the government taking possession about half the time.

Other homestead owners are looking for land managers or caretakers.  Or some sort of collaboration.  But their efforts have led to horrific results from dishonest or even criminal people - so their homesteads are, effectively abandoned.

People with homesteads are seeking people with REAL experience and skill.

People seeking homesteading opportunities want to build REAL experience and skill.

This book is an attempt to bridge these two communities.  People seeking homesteading opportunities are provided a way to accomplish hundreds of things and document them for free.  Eventually, they will be able to peruse hundreds of homestead opportunities.   And people with homesteads will be able to peruse hundreds of homesteaders that have proven their worth.

Active homesteaders use SKIP to build their skills for their own benefit.  The verification of their skills lends weight to their words on our forums.  Some people already have land and use SKIP to build their skills for caring for their land.

I wish for a Kickstarter (&/or pre-order) pledge that includes both an ebook and physical book.

For those having a hard time spotting the download in this thread, this tutorial might help: How to access Digital Market Goodies and Gift Codes. These screenshot might be the most helpful from that tutorial:

If on desktop view, look under the green 'upgrade' section to find the download link!

On mobile view, it'll look like this:

From my email ...

I paid for a book and was wondering if there were any updates.

The book is at the printer.  We are waiting until they get to our book to print.

In the meantime, the ebook is ready:  https://permies.com/wiki/162031/ebooks/SKIP-eBook-epub

I just got word that the SKIP books are now printed.

History says that it will take three more days until the paperwork is complete.  And then ten more days to "age to perfection."  Then about a week of skipping from truck to truck.

My guess is that they will arrive here around april 15 to 20.

Mike arrives on april 23 or so.

We will need to sign about 1000 books and then shipments begin.

This is fantastic news! It's there any chance- even remote - that some of those will be shipped out early enough for Earth Day? I'd LOVE to leave all but 1 of mine laying on tables in the library, coffee shops, etc, for folks to find, as an Earth Day surprise gift that keeps on giving.

It was $8.99 when it was in the pre-order phase.  Then it went up to $9.99 when we went into the normal phase.

Fixed it!  Thanks for the heads up!

I received my copies today.  However, I live relatively near Paul's place, it may take days or weeks more depending on where it's shipping to.

SKIP books are now for sale like a regular book.  In other words, the "pre-order" phase is complete!

I have a question about the program. I saw the program is for "young people", I am 38, & my boyfriend is 9 years older. Are we still "young" enough for the program??

Probably.

My guess is that if somebody hit PEP4 at the age of 50, they would get a flood of Otis offers.

At the same time, it is my impression that 90% of the people racking up BBs are not doing it for the Otis stuff, but for their own reasons.  In which case, a 70 year old person could do a bunch of BBs and it doesn't matter why.

I got my SKIP book yesterday and had one of those moments like a sixth-grader finding his Boy's Life magazine in the mailbox. Straight to the sofa for a good hour.

And then I had to go do something else, and not finding anything useful for a bookmark and being loth to bend the page, I said to myself, "Paul should have someone design a permaculture bookmark to send out with his physical books."

And then I thought, "Nah, he'd never go for it." But I sent this little email anyway...

I did! And it made me want to jump in my 2008 Prius (fruity little adventuremobile) and head straight for Montana.

But I get your point. You DID include a bookmark. I just didn't see it as such, and the fault in that was entirely mine for not thinking outside the entirely overused metaphor of a box.

I'm enjoying the SKIP program!  The book keeps everything in a nice, neat reference I can access anytime.  My preference is to have skills in case I need them.  This is the perfect opportunity for me to learn useful new skills.

The SKIP program is a lot of fun. I put a lot of my focus on the requirements for each submission and how I am going to present that. Having the physical book with me while I'm out doing the work simplifies trying to remember what I need to take photos/video of!
