I just added a BB to the Straw level (hopefully Paul doesn't mind) for "pick, mattock or other tough earth working tool".  So I'd take pictures for before, during and after and once someone creates that BB you can submit it there.

I used linseed oil on this shovel after it was sharpened and the rust was removed.  You can tell I've had it for a very long time from the wear patters at the tip (and that the primary user is left handed).

Here is my pre-unrusted shovel.



I steel-wooled it, put in vinegar overnight, sanded it, steel-wooled it again, then used an angle grinder on the back to create a bevel that is very edge-like but not quite an edge.

Oiling it down with boiled linseed oil:



The completed shovel.  Please note that the black stuff is factory paint.  I got a lot of little bits of that off but I thought I'd leave the large sections.

This was a fun one. The shovel is more than ready for the spring now. I used olive oil to coat it as not much else is around that isn't derived from dead dinosaurs (fossil fuels).

First time shovel sharpener here.  Honestly, I don't think I ever would have thought to do it unless I came across this BB!  It makes sense though with all the roots I've had to cut through when pulling some dead bushes earlier this year.

I just replaced the handle on this old, English-made shovel. It's been a good workhorse for us, so I thought I'd treat it to a sharpening and oiling while oiling the new haft. The material is a mixture of beeswax and grapeseed oil, applied hot (a traditional French recipe for wood paste, but works for tons of things). Much nicer now!

Would it count to do this with a trowel? I think it would be helpful for the tool's utility, but all the other submissions have been full sized shovels.
