This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Natural Medicine.

In this badge bit, you will harvest, dry and store elderberries or elder flowers



You need to dry enough to make a tea, infusion or decoction.

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must post:
- a picture of your fresh elderberries or flowers being harvested
- a picture of your elderberries or flowers drying (hanging, in a dehydrator, or in a bag, etc)
- a picture of your elderberries or flowers in a sealed and labelled container.
    - label shows where the elderberries or flowers came from, the date and method of drying.

Here is my submission for the Natural Medicine Aspect - Sand for Straw - Dry Elderberries BB.

I harvested Elderberries along the Klickitat River.  It was dried in a solar dehydrator.

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
- a picture of your fresh herbs being harvested
- a picture of your herbs drying (in a dehydrator)
- a picture of your herbs in a sealed and labeled container
    - label shows where the herbs came from, the date, and the method of drying

Through PEP I have come to realize there are so many ways to use elderberries!  Drying them is a great way to prolong their availability for various uses.  This was my second harvest this year from two blue elderberry trees, yes, trees!  I had to use a tall ladder to reach most of the berries.

This year has been a fantastic year for berries in my area. Spring was warm and dry for flowering, followed by lots of rain for plump fruits, and finished off with warmth to complete the ripening. Elder branches are dripping with berries right now so I dehydrated a batch this week.
