I'm about to cut split and stack 4+ cords of pulled apple wood from an orchard because I can get it for free this way. The wood is already laying on the ground as full trees. Since it's not dead standing wood will this not work for the bb? Thought I'd ask before documenting. Thanks!

Sorry, since it's not dead standing it doesn't really count for this one :(

Here is my submission for "Split and stack dead standing wood as firewood - PEP BB woodland.sand.splitandstack"

To get certified for this BB, I will post the following pics.

- dead standing wood I started with
- The wood cut
- starting the stack (and it is clear that the wood is all about 15 to 16 inches long)
- the stack about 2/3 done (still clear that all of the wood is all about 15 to 16 inches long)
- the completed stack clearly 1/2 face cord in size or provide evidence of the dimensions of the stack

Here is my submission for this BB, done at Wheaton Labs last summer. As I prepared to submit it, I watched the Nordic Splitting video. I sure wish Wheaton Labs had one of those splitters! I definitely did it the hard way. No bungee cord either.

I'm including pictures showing:

- the dead standing wood you are starting with (2 trees, I think I used both to complete the pile)
- The wood cut (i.e. the pile of logs before splitting)

Thanks!

Hi Mike, did you ever check up with Paul why the 15.5 inches length is required? Every year I put up about 3 of 4 cords of wood, all of a uniform size and neatly stacked, but just not to the stated log size because my stove does not accept those lengths. The other BB's requiring to put up cords of firewood don't have any requirements to size what so ever so.

Yeah, it's because that's the depth of a RMH infeed and how long they want the pieces at Wheaton Labs.  In the PEM program (Permaculture Experience according to Mike) it will allow for the length of your choice...

Felling and bucking trees was easy, splitting the wood on the other hand, painful. Fortunately I was able to get a manual, hydraulic-assisted tool to help my arms split the wood. I bucked more than I needed for a half cord but wanted to complete the job. I filled the 4ft x 4ft rack in front of cooper cabin.

Took down some dead alder and turned it into firewood.  The pile ended up being 6ftx3ft (18sqft) and the sticks are 16in
