Crochet or knit a dishcloth - PEP BB textile.sand.dishcloth

I used all cotton yarn with a 5.5 mm crochet hook.

I had some time today to crochet and thought I'll crochet my submission for this BB. I didn't follow any particular pattern and it turned out a bit big, but oh well, it will still be useful.

Here’s my dishcloth, I used 100% cotton yarn that I got for Christmas.

I think 10x10 is a bit larger than my personal preference, so I am hoping this tightens a bit with use. It was also a little sad to note how many folx are using the same brand of yarn, just because I believe more companies should be interested in non-plastic options.

I used organic cotton yarn and a 6.00 mm hook.

One of two projects I did with my textile artist mom during our "Fiber arts weekend" - I also worked on the sand badge pillow BB with her :)

Yarn was "I love this cotton!" 100% cotton medium/worsted weight yarn. I used a 5.25MM hook. Final measurement is 13" square.

This was my very first crochet project, and let me tell you, I have started crocheting up a storm! I'm excited to share more of my projects for future BB's. I have learned so much since I created this project, and I appreciate the motivation this community provided me in getting started with this new skill.

My very first BB submission - I went with something I thought I could do easily=)  I hope I do this right.

I started with scrap yarn I bought at a garage sale - cheap, but 100% cotton (peaches&cream)- and thr Rainbow red I bought from Hobbii (The red in the picture is an 8/4, but the one I'm using I lost the label for but its the same yarn in an 8/.  

When I learn a new stitch, I make a washcloth =)  I have several washcloths of very fancy stitches  - since I only buy 100% cotton (or wool) I know these are all cotton, some of varying ages.  We prefer about 7" which we learned through trial and error, so this is the biggest washcloth I have made!  I wanted to try entrelac, which is a different style of crochet, making rectangles and connecting them.  It's a tight weave, thicker than I would suggest for a dishcloth but its sturdy and I like it!

Here is my yarn.  This is a heavy linen that might be used for the warp of a rug or other strong project.   I thought it would have some nice texture for scrubbing.



Those needles are way too big though!   Here I am getting started with smaller needles.



About half done.  I started with too many stitches so I would be sure to have a wide enough piece.  Once I had a gauge of how many stitches per inch, I decreased my stitches per row to give myself a nice hanging loop.


Here is my finished piece.



I love how this feels in my hand.  It is a joy every time I pick it up to wash dishes or wipe the counter.  It is very absorbent, dries quickly and has a nice scrubby texture.

I used 100% cotton yarn with a 4.25 crochet hook. I have been crocheting for about a year and usually make stuffed animals and silly functional stuff to sell at markets periodically, so this was a fun change of pace! My mom was in the hospital this past week, so this was the perfect bit to accomplish while I’m away from the homestead 😌

For years I've kinda had in the back of my head a thought that I should learn at least the basics of knitting at some point.  Finally for this BB I've opted to do that.  So this is the very first thing I've ever knitted.  It started out a bit rough, missing a stitch or two, then growing in size some, but as things progressed I got the hang of the basic knit stitch.  I can still see there is lots more I should learn about knitting if I ever want to make something as "complicated" as a sock!

Anyway, here is my dishcloth submission for consideration for this BB.

For yarn I went to my bag of cotton yarns I got a while back in anticipation of doing this BB as well as darning some socks and sweaters.  I ended up selecting the cream colored one.  I got a set of #7 knitting needles for this project as well.  Although I got faster as I went along this still took longer than I originally anticipated.  It makes me all the more grateful for the hand knit socks, mittens, and scarves I've received through the years, not to mention giving greater value to my sweaters (though I'm guessing all mine were machine knit).
