POST 346 (DAY 356, Saturday, 2021.7.31)
[Morning Entry]
.... spent some time with friends Friday evening.. they treated me to dinner.. I treated them to ice cream afterwards.. it was a lovely night in town.. before that, I worked on some
hugel “pits”.. six inch holes in the hugel mound that fill up with
water until the hugel soaks it up.. essentially increasing surface area for direct water contact to the earth material under the mulch.. sizes slightly vary, holding between a quarter to a half gallon.. why is this important?.. well we’ve been trying to find a way to spend less time watering, and maximize absorption.. the idea came from a conversation that happened with Mike and Fred, who both have been
gardening for a while while.. I’m estimating it will reduce watering time by half or more.. soil sample testing will follow shortly..
