Both pairs of my only jeans got holes in them within the same week... womp womp.

Happy to have mended them so I don't have to endure another dinner party full knowing there's a tear in my pants and fearing someone would notice. (No one did) Here's one of those mends :)

Sewed a patch into a denim tear.

Forgot about dealing with frayed edges, so I undid the patch and tucked in all the edges before sewing again.

My favourite pair of trackies had a meeting with a fence as I stepped over it, and earned a hole in the unfortunate place of the back inner thigh...I've still been wearing them as pj pants, but it's a little awkward with me trying not to turn around if anyone comes to the door!

Super happy with the outcome of this! I've never mended a hole before, and while I probably would've just tried to stitch the hole together, I can definitely see the benefit of having a patch to keep everything much more secure.

Another learning lesson. This is the first time I’ve ever used a sewing machine. I watched and followed youtube videos and learnt basics like spooling thread on to the bobbins. I sewed some trial pieces learning about which stitch to use. I went for a zig zag pattern - a wide one for the gash and a more narrow one for the patch.

I used a piece of old cotton duvet cover as a patch to mend my hiking trousers.

I used a wide zigzag stitch to close the rip. Then I ran three runs over the patch. I used the reverse lever running over the first cm at the start and end of each run.

Here are my photos.

I usually mend with messy darning so this was a chance to learn how to patch something!

I'm doing a squats challenge fundraiser for charity and it's obviously having an effect! I have burst a hole in my jeans next to the left back pocket, having done the same damage to the other side only a couple of weeks ago. I'd been looking for a use for the small piece of cotton fabric and I think this was a perfect fit, I'm really pleased with how it turned out! I used scanfil cotton thread and the jeans are also cotton.

I don't know how easy it is to see the edge after I cut the window for the bear, but I did go around it with a blanket stitch to stabilise it. In the last picture you can see my messy darning on the other side as well.

Sew a patch bb submission, take 2. (First time I used synthetic interfacing)
In making the quilted pillowcase bb, I found the blanket I was repurposing had a hole. So I clipped a small piece from the original blanket, sewed it to the back, and embroidered over it to both keep the patch more firmly in place and to strengthen the fabric. This little heart is now on the back of the pillowcase, and no one can tell it’s covering a hole.
All materials are cotton and only cotton.

Found some holes in my favorite pair of pants- And in the most awkward places. Hopefully these patches stop them from getting bigger- at least for a while.
I used red top stitching because I already had it on the machine from another project, I used white for the bobbin thread for similar convenience, but also so it was nearly invisible on the outside. The patch material was from a pair of pants- the rest of it was upcycled a few months ago into a denim pinafore.

(also I didn't take the best picture of the groin hole patch, but I could fit at least a finger in each of the three holes)

Finally, here's my machine!

(Also glad the table format was helpful!! c:)

Eight years in, our wedding quilt is starting to show its age a bit. There are some pinholes I’ll have to learn how to fix next, but I decided to get a start by patching the tears that really exposed the batting. I used white cotton embroidery floss, a hand-sewing needle, and some repurposed cotton bedsheets that I dyed last summer with marigolds and tomato greens.

Thanks for your consideration!
