Edge case submission
Sharpening hatchet I hope it's improved enough because my husband told me to stop doing such a useless task and do something productive. Since we had the power off to have utility work done I thought working on hand tools with more powerless tools was a productive use of time but oh well.

Edge case submission
I picked up a hatchet since a lot of small projects need it. It was beyond dull and actually had a blunt edge. It was as effective at cutting as a hammer. After some work, I have been able to cut points on stakes and similar tasks.

I was at the local flea market recently and picked up an old hatchet both to do this BB and because I didn't have one.  The edge of it had plenty of nicks.  First I used a surface conditioning pad on my 4.5 inch grinder to clean off some of the oxidation.  Then used a sandpaper flap wheel on the same grinder to to the major metal removal, creating a fresh nick free edge.  To finish up I went with a set of diamond hones in order to really sharpen up the edge.

I submit this for approval.

Tuned up the hatchet today.  I included dull, action, sharp, and test pics.   The sharp pic is hard to see, but there is a polished edge on it if you look close.  I think the best proof for sharpness is the cardboard test pic.  Cardboard slice on left is sharp hatchet, little tiny notch to the right is cardboard test before sharpening.

Trying again after deciding the one I was using before is actually an axe. Bought a new hatchet and there was no edge on that blade. Filed with a metal file and it now cuts paper. I don’t know how people safely cut paper with a hatchet single-handedly though.

I managed to get a hatchet kit from a black powder dealer that I do business with as a fun assembly project to do with my partner. After we had it assembled, we realized the blade was completely and utterly dull but it could be sharpened. This BB pushed me to do that.
