I completed this BB at the SKIP 2023 event. I used the same adobe brick form used for all other bricks created here, which is the standard size of 12" x 6" x 3".

Here’s my first round of cob bricks. Going to try a few different mixes; build a kiln, fire all the mixes & see what ends up most durable.

First round started pretty sloppy so I did a few extras so I’d at least have 12 good ones.

This is all in preparation to have our first RMH finished before winter.

I made adobe bricks! Ingredients are: sandy soil, clay soil, and chopped straw. I chopped it with scissors. I used my feet, my hands, a shovel a few times, and this wooden form.

At Wheaton Labs, I made 13 adobe bricks that are 12" x 6" x 3". The mixed materials are sand, clay harvested from the lab, and straw. I was sharing the forms with other Skippers but kept track of my bricks that I made throughout the whole process.

Made 12 Adobe bricks! My method was a smidge different- I did small batch by mixing up each brick individually in a bucket.

A couple days earlier I made 2 bricks and let them dry so I could see what I liked and didn't like before making the whole dozen.

My materials are kitty litter clay, play sand, straw and a little dirt plus water.

I tested 4 different mixes using varying proportions of the subsoil from my friend's property, sand aggregate, and long straw or cattail fluff depending on the mix.

I think the 2:1:3 mix is the best which is the cob mix that I used with more straw.
