The phone rang in the early hours of the morning.  Dark outside, fast asleep for once.

Oh noses, I missed the video premiere and someone's phoning me to tell me.  Only it wasn't and I didn't miss it.

It was one of those scam calls (you can tell it's a scam because the people they say they are, understand how time zones work).

I'm glad I didn't miss it.  Can't wait for tomorrow.  I hope some of you might be able to make it to the premiere and hang out with me in the chat.

If anyone is interested in an Easter Egg hunt, there are two of Nicole's gorgeous felted chickens who make an appearance in this video.

Here's more about her chickens.  https://permies.com/t/fairy-grove-chicken

That's odd.
My test account signed up for notifications but it didn't get any for the starting in 30 min mark.

Did anyone get that notification?

I also got the notification a couple of mins before.
Really liked the narration and how it felt like being read a story, like a compilation of diary excerpts. Great bird and great video!!

Disappointing about the lack of a 30-min notification.  It is SUPPOSED to show up.  Maybe I haven't unlocked that feature yet.

Youtube is like some sort of game where the rules are vaguely stated.  You have to 'level up' by getting subscribers before you can get these fancy features.

Looks like the chat lasts for about 10 min longer than the video.

Thank you EVERYONE for helping and playing in chat.  I hope you liked it.

I found a pop-up reminder on my desktop when I started my day around 5:45 am (not exactly sure when it appeared).  I pay for YouTube Premium (no ads) - not sure if that matters.

That's a good question - did anyone get ads?

I hear youtube puts ads on my videos even though I don't get any money for them.  (looking forward to when I can take control of this element.  There really shouldn't be adverts on short videos.)

I was too late to set a reminder, but I did watch and subscribe.  That sewing bird would be handy for other things too, such as when braiding several cords together.  Also, beading a necklace etc.

I didn't get any ads (fortunately). I've watched it around 1h after you were live (and loved it!!).

Re notification - I got in-app/on site notification, not sure when exactly, I've turned off all other means of notification some years ago.

Very professional but also very personable. I’ve watched videos from people with hundreds of thousands of subscribers and they could learn a lot from you. I think in terms of production, content, balance of factual and fun, you have the magic sauce. And your voice is made of documentaries and story telling. Bravo!

I did not see any reminder until I went to youtube (just in time!). But that can be because I did not set up for other notifications. I only clicked the reminder button of youtube, so it only showed on youtube.
O, no ads. But that probably will change when you get more subscribers and more views. Then youtube will put ads in your channel ...

I was at work, but the timestamp on my notification email indicates that it came as the video went live. I loved the video, and now, I'm excited to go try mine out. It came just before we had 2 solid weeks of company, so I've not had a chance yet, to try it out, or even snap a pic.

A huge thank you to everyone.
I learned a lot about youtube.

Many of the numbers won't show until tomorrow.

I also learned that I haven't unlocked some vital features like finding out how many people signed up for notifications and a few other things.  Most of them should unlock after I pass 1k subscribers... if I understand correctly.  I would love it if that could be my newyears present to myself, but to be honest, it's not something I have direct control of.  All I can do is keep making the best videos I can and hope people like enough to subscribe.

No ads for me, or if there were I didn't notice them which would kinda defeat the point of an ad.

It was a good video.  I learned a bit about hand sewing, something I know virtually nothing about.  I can see how the bird could be a handy tool, esp. when sewing towards yourself as you were.  At some point I intend to my pile of worn, holed, jeans and shirts and start hand sewing patches to make them functional again, at least for working around the homestead.

My guess is that the brass casting has some sort of lacquer coating on it to keep it from tarnishing quickly.  Most commercial brass things do anyway, because bare brass will start to oxidize very rapidly (ie. develop a patina).  If you want a natural patina to develop you will probably need to find a way to remove that coating.  Over time it may wear off, at least from the high points that get rubbed a lot.  You might be able to abrade it off with a wire brush of some sort.  A solvent might also work, though I'm guessing as a permie you would avoid this option.  I can't say I never use solvents myself, but they tend to be a last resort.  Fire would do the trick too, but not for an already assembled product such as your bird!

As for clamp marring protection your cardboard solution isn't bad.  I would think that a couple small pieces of scrap wood might work better as the wood would not have the squishy factor cardboard does making for a potentially firmer hold.

Oh noses.
I think my test backfired.

Youtube has frozen my view count but I can still see from the live feed that people are still watching.  I think they are verifying that all you people are "real" and not "bots".

It also has a note saying this video did so well at the start that we are going to show it to way more people outside your normal niche.   They are showing it to people who watch this sort of video.  Not sure that's a big sewing crowd.

Oh well.  It will settle down after a few days.  But this usually means it won't do well after that.  Pitty.

But you know, it doesn't matter how much effort I put into a video.  It matters if the people watching enjoy it.  The youtube metric is pretty good at figuring that out eventually.  Still, it's a bit sad when the creation doesn't thrive as much as I had hoped.  (but if you do want to help it out, feel free to share it with your friends and FB and places so it can earn more googlelove which will give it more youtubelove)

Apparently, I have to wait another day to get more numbers from youtube.  But on the whole, I got a lot of information I didn't have before so the test itself was a huge sucess.  Thanks for helping.

I think reactions on the video itself (the bird itself) are welcome here too.
I don't know if such a bird would be helpful to me. When I sew by hand, I work sideways (depending on the stitch from left to right or from right to left). Maybe I can try it (with a self made clamping thing) and then it will change the way I sew ...
I won't order that bird from amazon. I am not the kind of person with shiny brass utensils (I prefer the stainless steel minimalist style) and I prefer buying things in local shops.

I could also see you changing your position so the bird was off to your R or L, rather than in front of you. I could see me trying that at some point.

Making a mocking sewing bird might be a great way to test if it's right for you.

I'll probably be testing that with mine, as well. My body doesn't often allow for me to work for long, in the same position, so some means of changing it up will be necessary, if I'm to work on anything for more than 10 minutes or so - less, if I'm standing.
