This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in Dimensional Lumber Woodworking.

Hammocks are great.  Sleeping on the ground is nice.  I saw a guy sleeping while standing on the assembly line.  That's all fine but let's build a proper bed to sleep in!








To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
  - it's a bed or bunkbed
  - sized for a human (adult or kid)
  - no paint, stain, plywood or man-made materials

To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):
- the wood you're starting with
- the construction partially underway
- the finished bed

My 14-year-old wanted a floating bed.  That is to say, a bed that appears as though it is hovering above the floor.  





This shows the cantilevering necessary for the floating effect.



To get this effect requires pimp lighting.  It's not technically part of the bed though, right?   :)  I hope the homemade quilt restores some balance.

We need more room, we had a lot of old wood sitting around, some of it was from older projects most of it was just weird cut or scrap.

We had a lot of carriage bolts so we decided to use those to give it extra support.

This is a full size loft bed we made. We just can't walk underneath, but it a great place to store our extra junk.

Updated: Here is another picture if you need a different one, it's cool it just might take me a few days or so to get it!

I wanted a bed frame tall enough for a lot of storage underneath, and to practice woodworking. Luckily this project should also qualify for a BB. Since I wasn’t sure how good the screws would hold, especially without glue, I notched the wood to be partially self-supporting. I’m glad I did this as some of the boards were twisted and there are large gaps at some joints. Tools used were circular, chop, band and hand saws, power drill, and sandpaper.

I wanted an easy way to convert my work van to a fun van.  The solution is a hanging bed that stows on the ceiling (under platform storage is still in the design phase).  I present the mullet of recreation/work vehicle, 10/90 club of automobiles, the best of business and party.  Long story short, I built a bed.
