As an auDHDer, I hate dishwashing sooo much. I have procrastinated this BB for a while now. In our household, everything is dishwasher safe, because otherwise it stays next to the sink for weeks. Of course I know how to wash dishes, but I still learned quite a bit during this BB!

I did everything in the worst way: didn't properly clean the dishes before washing them, getting margarine on all the cleaner dishes that way... I'm impressed how little water I used considering this! It could have been way less if I had done some things differently.

I also found out that this method doesn't really work well with my hot water supply, as water heaters need a certain amount of pressure to register it should be heating it up. So my water was ice cold and I had to fill some hot water into a jar, which was then too heavy to get just a little bit out, and so on... I will stick with the dishwasher as an accommodation for my brain and hot water situation for now. I'm proud, though, and am happy to be able to use this knowledge in my outdoor kitchen soon, where I will use water in a large jar with a tap and let it be heated by the sun

Dish soap:
https://www.sonett.eu/products/dishwashing/dishwashing-liquid-lemon/?no_cache=1&L=1

"100 % biologisch abbaubar" means 100 percent biodegradable.

Contains:
Aqua, Alkylpolyglucoside C10–C16 (Lauryl Glucoside), Sodium C8–C14 Fatty Alcohol Sulfate (Sodium Octyl Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), Alcohol, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Parfum*, Citral*

*certified organically grown

"Despite ingredients being extracted from the plant-based raw materials starch, sugar, and fat during the manufacturing process of sugar surfactants and coconut oil alcohol sulphate, they remain completely intact in their natural structure. That makes it quite easy for microorganisms to 100 % decompose these surfactants very quickly. Sugar surfactants and coconut alcohol sulphate are classified as being readily biodegradable according to OECD guidelines.

Suitable for septic tanks and filtration systems."

I'm a bit confused now if this is the correct soap, it is the most ecological one you can buy in Germany, but I think as greywater stuff is mostly illegal and the whole thing is very formalized, they may not be able to write greywater safe on it? I don't know enough about the ingredients. Can somebody with greywater experience tell me while certifying or flagging?

Back for redemption since I utterly failed at the first attempt.  Taco Tuesday at Pisher Price House.  I volunteered to do the dishes for redemption (and ice cream!)
I don't know what kind of soap Paul uses but I can guarantee it is biod and all the amazing properties it is supposed to be....

The pan was 12 x 9 x 3. used 324 cubic inches. 1 gallon is 231 cubic inches so I used about a gallon and a half for these dishes.

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
 - wash dishes without a dishwasher
     - use minimal soap
         - must be greywater friendly soap (the soap usually says "greywater safe" or "readily biodegradable")
     - fill a dishwasher with clean dishes using less than 3 gallons of water
         - or approximate equivalent
             - might require five rounds in a small dish rack
         - yes, you are using the dishwasher as a dish drying rack

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must:
- post a picture of the dirty dishes in the sink
- post a progress picture of the dishes being washed
- post a picture of the completed dishes with obviously less than 3 gallons water used
- describe the soap used, its grey water friendliness, and a link to the verifiable biodegradeable dish soap
- OR post a 2 minute video of you washing the dishes by hand

Cleaned up the dishes from pizza night.  The big trays wouldn’t fit in the dishwasher. There are some dishes in the dishwasher drying also, if you look at where the door is cracked, you can see them.

I hope this soap counts according to your rules.  . I was able to add a picture where it says biodegradable.  I used this small bowl as my soap and water basin.  I did have to refill it twice.

Note: Sorry, but I can't tell how much water was used. Try washing the dishes in a basin to show the water use when finished. Also, I need a clearer pic of the soap ingredients or somewhere on the bottle to say "readily biodegradable" or "greywater safe."

Here is my submission for "PEP BB nest.sand.dishes - Wash Dishes by Hand":

I am providing photos of the following:
- a picture of the dirty dishes in the sink
- a progress picture of the dishes being washed
- a picture of the completed dishes with obviously less than 3 gallons water used

and a description of the following:
- the soap used, its grey water friendliness, and a link to the verifiable biodegradeable dish soap

I used Oasis Biocompatible All Purpose Cleaner/Dishwash, which specifically notes that it breaks down in greywater with no plant toxins: https://www.bio-pac.com/oasis-biocompatible-cleaners/oasis-biocompatible-all-purpose-cleanerdishwash/

Note: Two things: this is obviously not a whole dishwasher's worth of dishes, so you need to do several sinksful until you have that much clean dishes all with less than 3 gals of water. Additionally, you need to either write coherently about the soap's safety for greywater, or link us to a web page that does so.

Ok ok. Lesson learned. You don’t need nearly as much water as you think to wash dishes. I’m not a total convert yet, I need a little more grease cutting power (or maybe a different soap would have worked better) but I did learn the value of manually scraping as much food off as you can before you get to the water instead of spraying it off with the faucet.
I used Dr Bronner’s Castile soap and a pitcher to measure my gallons. Had a little left over in the end.
I had a weekend’s worth of dishes (plus a teenager cleaning their room) piled up to use for this.
Link to soap: https://www.drbronner.com/products/lavender-pure-castile-liquid-soap?variant=36027942305956

Edit to add: sorry, I included details on water use the first time I wrote this up and then accidentally went back to the previous page and had to start over. I used just under three gallons total. I filled the pitcher (1 gallon) three times, didn’t use all of the third.

I was floored when I saw how many dishes I could do with just three gallons of water, astonishing.  I measured out three gallons of water, one for washing and two for rinsing to start.  Seventh Generation dish soap was the soap used.  Here is some information about the soap:

https://www.seventhgeneration.com/blog/dos-and-donts-greywater-systems

"While there are no standard requirements for greywater-safe products here in the US, Australia has a strict standard for assessing products for greywater compatibility... Have a greywater system in place? We’re got you covered! Seventh Generation laundry detergents, hand dish, and auto dish products are made with greywater systems in mind, meeting all Australian standards and requirements."

When the wash water got narsty, I drained it and used one more gallon from the less dirty rinse water and kept the party going.  The dishwasher is in the background and it is clear that the amount of dishes that were done far exceeds the capacity of the dishwasher.

What an interesting BB!  I learned some stuff that I may implement on a regular basis.

Note: Technically complete, but there are a couple of improvements that can be made. First, the water can go to plants rather than down the sink. Second, food scraps can be composted, even meat and dairy (look up bokashi).

I've never had a dishwasher so I always wash dishes by hand. I used Ecover washing up liquid which says it is ok for septic tanks. I used two lots of water in the basin so I have only added the dirty water photo from one round here, but in total used less than 4.5L which is just over 1 US gallon according to google.

It's just my husband and I so not many dishes for dinner. We already wash our dishes by hand so we don't accumulate dishes throughout the day. We also dry our dishes right after washing rather than air drying them due to hard water spots.

Note: Hi Jamie! I think this is a good start in that you have the water used evident but we need to know your soap is greywater friendly and there should be enough dishes to fill a dishwasher. You could do several batches and photograph separately if you use less than 3 gallons water total.  See the requirements:    - use minimal soap           - must be greywater friendly soap (the soap usually says "greywater safe" or "readily biodegradable")       - fill a dishwasher with clean dishes using less than 3 gallons of water           - or approximate equivalent               - might require five rounds in a small dish rack
