Plantain leaf has a special place in my heart since as a child I discovered I could tear up these specific leaves from the lawn and put them on bug bites and they would itch and hurt less. It took me years to find out what kind of leaves they were, and now they're my favorite treatment for all sorts of skin ailments - I prefer them fresh, but the infused oil works nearly as well. For this batch, I used a quality olive oil and let it infuse in a dark cabinet for about six weeks, shaking once a week.

I intend to use this oil to make a salve, but it's fully usable plantain oil at this stage. The base oil is olive and it was infused for roughly 5 weeks. Not that it matters, but I loved how vibrant the color was with this batch. With lids at a premium right now, I used a bit of recycled plastic wrap as a covering.

I found plantain in Yellowstone National Park, and brought home seeds to plant. When it grew, I made an olive oil infusion.

I harvested plantain, chickweed, and a little dead nettle, let them wilt for a few hours, and infused them in coconut oil over gentle heat for 24 hours.

Plantain was the main herb of the 3. I asked awhile back if multiple herbs could be used in the oil and got the OK as long as I didn't use the same one for other herbal oil BBs. Just let me know if it's no longer acceptable to use more than plantain in the oil.

  • I harvested and air dried plantain leaves over the summer. Then I crushed the dried leaves, submerged it in 100g of EVOO, and baked at 180degF for 12 hours. I then strained the oil into a labeled jar.
