Cook Grain with a Solar Oven - PEP BB food.sand.grain.solar

Hey, most of you seem to use the same solar oven. Is it a DIY one that can be used at Wheaton labs or is it one that can be bought? I want to build one and this one looks really good.

Solar rice at WL I couldn't find a lid for these bowls that didn't fall in or was a tent. So the rice dehydrated a bit on top.

Looking for cooked picture. Hope these count.

I've been wanting to try this method for a while, so I made a makeshift solar cooker to use until I get the stuff for a wood one. I had an interview the afternoon I put rice in it and totally ignored it until I got home several hours later and the rice was completely cooked through. Zero effort required! I am so pleased!

Here is my submission for this BB. Definitely want to get/make a solar oven of my own after doing this!

I cooked white rice and am attaching the following pictures:

A note regarding the cookware: I used the pot from my camp cooking set. I bought it some years ago and can't recall what it's made of, and it doesn't say, but it isn't aluminum because I don't buy aluminum. I don't even use aluminum foil.

I cooked my rice in the GoSun vacuum tube solar oven at Wheaton Labs.  I couldn't fit a pot in the oven so I split it into two glass bowls which were each marked as 2 cups.  Behold!

I cooked quinoa and this was my favorite method of cooking so far!

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
  - you must produce at least two cups of grain
  - you must use a solar oven

Clarifications:
- All food prep and preservation BBs strictly prohibit plastic, teflon or aluminum touching the food at any point

I used a foil lined box with textured clear stained glass as a top. It worked pretty well! The rice is a bit toothy but I added it to broccoli and cauliflower soup and the family enjoyed it.

You know you’re a Permie when: you ask for and receive a solar cooker for Christmas so you can knock out another BB!!

I got a GoSun Sport and finally had clear skies to give it a shot.
First time cooking anything with it, or any solar cooker, while it took >90minutes, it turned out alright!!
