I read and saw the videos about the Plantain Poultice and I thought: that's what I need!
I knew where to find some Plantain leaves.
I made the needed photos too to get this BB.


Plantain was growing in my allotment garden.

Put the blended Plantain stuff on a piece of cloth and then where I needed it.
There was a very red spot at the backside of my left knee. As far as I could see there were some small 'bite marks'. Probably a very small creature (spider, centipede, ant?) had been trapped inside my trousers and then bit me. And then inflammation came. So this Poultice must be helpful!

I have a lot of plantain in my lawn. It gives the neighbours something to tut at!

I harvest with a small pruning knife, cutting just above the root. The curved blade means I can be pretty precise and just collect the plantain.

I sorted through the plants, removing all the good undamaged leaves which I then washed.

I then chopped the leaves up before crushing in a pestle and mortar.

I used an old bed sheet that I had previously made into rags, ripping into strips that were long enough to tie around a limb. I made five poltices and tested one on myself. The other four went in a repurposed, clean, bag in the freezer, labeled and dated.

My teething, breastfeeding baby has me in a lot of pain. Knowing the antibacterial, wound-healing properties of plantain, I'm using it today. Hopefully she won't mind the flavor of plantain on my skin!

I was bitten by many little insects when clearing some beds in my mother's garden a few days ago and decided to make a plantain poultice to sooth them.

I harvested some ribwort plantain from my garden (note the, I think, beautiful Indian grindstones in the background which I hope to one day put back to work) and then chewed it up (it's pretty astringent!) and applied it to my arm. I secured it with some paper for easy composting!

I got one really annoying of bug bite while foraging the other day. I kept scratching at it with no relief. There are some flowering plantains in my front yard that I decided to try to use to deal with it.


My entire yard is filled- I took one or two leaves from each plant around the house.


I crushed it with my mortar and pestle, and chewed on it when I got tired of doing that- plantain is surprisingly tough.

Final thoughts: wow that's surprisingly effective. I'm going to mash it up with my teeth in the future- just for speed, but this stuff is great for those irritating spots!

Ridiculous cooking mistake—dropped a garlic peel in hot oil and decided I could probably get it with my fingers. Needless to say, I was wrong. A quick plantain spit poultice to the rescue!

I got stung by some hornets and needed something fast.
Thankfully I’ve been cultivating and spreading the plantain I found in my yard.

I took leaves and cut them up, mixed in a little oil, and used it right then.
That worked great, but I didn’t like the consistency. I let it sit overnight and bought a mortar and pestle, then I got busy while watching Beau's Mycoinsulation Movie

Clarification question, would I need to repeat this exercise separately for the oil or could this count for two badges?

to make an herbal-infused oil, you need to soak dried herbs for several weeks (or heat/soak fresh herbs for several hours) so the process described would not qualify for the infused oil BBs.

Plantain poultice! We use this treatment on our littles all summer long when the vanilla and herbal salves fail to keep the “squitos” away.
