I was rasping away some saw marks on the black locust and took a picture of the grain close up. I really like the polished colors the wood shows off.

My father would use a turning lathe to make items out of it from large branches. They do have spectacular color and hold a good polish.

BRK Post 58

Quick post today. Did a little check in on the garden, made sure the sprouts were still healthy. We have gotten a bit of cold before the last frost date here and I'm hoping they all make it.

Went around basecamp plucking danelion flowers for making into wine. I'm not sure I have enough I might add other dried flowers to increase the flavor.

I've been looking around the lab to see what plot I should pick. On my hike I found a patch of fur that was shed off. It looks like coyote fur.

BRK 59

Double update today, cause I missed yesterday.

Sunday the main tasks were planting raspberries, potting up cuttings, and a little tinkering with the door latch parts. Nothing worth pictures really. But I did get a pic of a woodpecker while I was planting a raspberry.

Sunday night all us lab boots went to Missoula for ramen. Had a lot of fun with everyone and got back late.

So today started with gardening and grass chopping. Met the new boot, nice to get new faces and more cool permies.

Then for the afternoon I finished the core of the door, tomorrow I think I'll get the tongue and groove board on one side and I think the hinges have been delivered so I can play with those too.

BRK Post 60

Woke up to the cat jumping on me for food... she is eating double what she used to when she lived inside.

I made a start on the tongue and groove boards but realized I need to get the latch bolt and hole ready first.

Chiseled out the hole, lined up two supports to hold the dowels on either side, slimmed down and sanded the dowels.

I know I did a bunch of other stuff.... but those are the things I can say are done. Everything else was fixing something or cleaning up or helping out elsewhere.

The biggest trouble I had today was drilling the holes for the dowels. They had to be perpendicular to the door, so rigged up 2x4 guides. Two holes took about 40 mins.

Tomorrow should see one side covered up and the latch bolt and gear bit cut out.
