In this Badge Bit, you will run a self cleaning oven.  (Note that this BB is part of an 8-part choose your own adventure list BB called the Jeeves List. You must complete eight Badge Bits in the Jeeves List.)

Note to self:  Leave the house while the oven self-cleans, it smells.   Self cleaning the oven is not a set and forget, once the cycle is complete the ash residue needs to be wiped up, the glass on the inside had to be cleaned with a baking  soda and razor blade and the racks needed to be cleaned. I need to clean the oven more often. I am ready for Thanksgiving pies. I did forget to take the picture of the oven running the self clean.

Staff note (Mike Haasl) :

I'm trying to channel Paul on this one... While you're missing the photo of it in operation, I'll give you some leeway since you're the first to attempt this BB. I hereby certify it.

I bought an ugly cast iron skillet for $2 at a garage sale and wanted to try restoring it at the same time as cleaning my oven, so I left a rack in (it didn't seem to hurt it).

Good as new, almost

Today was chilly and I thought it would be a good day for the high heat.  The fire alarm didn't seem to think so, and my neighbors know I have a clean oven.

Staff note (Ashley Cottonwood) :

Did you use any additional cleaner? Just let us know either way and I'll certify this BB!

Staff note (Rob Lineberger) :

I certify this BB as complete! Welcome, Julie! You've earned an air badge but I'm not 100% certain how to give it to you. But I'll find out.

Staff note (Rob Lineberger) :

Found it! Enjoy your spiffy new air broom!

No extra cleaners; I just rinsed out a micro-fiber cloth over and over (and over) again with hot water to wipe the ash. .

Forgot to take a picture of the mess before I ran the self-cleaning cycle - hopefully a picture of the gunk after the cycle ran but before wiping out counts?

I've never run a self-cleaning oven before, but after my partner's attempt at a pumpkin pie leaked all over, I figured I'd give it a shot! Everything wiped away with a damp sponge, no other cleaners required.

Staff note :

Staff feels this is an edge case. Please be more careful with the "before" pix or other details next time. This was obviously cleaned though so I'm going to certify it.
