I feel old! :'D
I have avoided a "jar" by keeping a bin of scrap clothes and a handful of buttons in my sewing drawer, but for this BB I made a button jar!  (And promptly found 3 more buttons to put in after I took the pic.)

This is a pair of pants that survived two boys, but is too small for the smallest. It will be used tonmake patches for their bigger clothes since it cannot be patched/passed on any more. It had 2 cargo pockets that each had two buttons.

I had an old cotton flannel that i outgrew, so I harvested the buttons and fabric from it.

I had a worn out polo shirt and decided it was time to start a button jar.

Here is an old pair of shorts my wife is tired of me wearing. While I think there is still life in them, she said no and keeping her happy is my main goal. So I took the button off and consolidated the loose buttons in my drawer into an empty fish food container and put that in my sew box. The buttons on my pockets have long since been gone and the back pockets were snaps that broke my phone screen so I cut those off about a year ago.

Just removing the buttons from what's left of an old army jacket and adding them to the cache.

Not a piece of clothing but I harvested a button from an old beat up duvet cover. I filled the jar with all the buttons I had in my craft supplies and all of the random extra buttons that came with various pieces of clothing.

A button jar! I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time, now that I’m working through the BBs, I’ve gotten in a motivated mood to finally get some things done.
I used an old pickle jar, and colored on it to make it pretty ❤️
I collected some buttons from a shirt that I bought for my husband at a thrift store but it was the wrong size and I can’t return it seeing as I’ve lost the receipt. It won’t go to waste! Buttons in the jar, and the fabric can be used in a future sewing project.

Button Tin!  I've actually had a button tin for many years, then got rid of it for many years, and now it's back due to an inheritance of buttons.  So I thought I would look for some more matching buttons to add to the tin.  Found some on some scrap fabric (formerly a well-loved baby jumper worn to shreds!)

Collected the 4 remaining matching buttons (one was a replacement that did not match) and they are now happily in the button tin.
