Ashley Cottonwood wrote:I plan on bringing some "treats" for the Boots & everyone (coffee and dark chocolate) so you can exclude that from the list. I planned to also bring some items from the organic store in Eureka on my way done.

I'm going to say I will grab some:
- Rice
- Eggs
- Greens

How does that sounds?

Sounds fantastic Ashley!

I'd also like to contribute food since they're doing this whole thing for free. I'm flying in, so I'm thinking we'll stop at the organic food store and see what looks good over there.

Apologies for crashing in here, but would anyone driving to the event happen to live between South Central Oregon and Portland? I have some yurt parts I'm trying to transport and would rather see the extremely large delivery fee stay within the permie culture if possible. It's a ~3'x3'x1' box so should fit in most vehicles

How many people are hoping to build a hugel during the event?  If longer than 6' (straw/wood), please specify...

How many hope to put a horizontal on a berm scaffold?

Asking on behalf of the boot team...

Food to bring ....

I will be supplying "staples" - the stuff that is normally part of the bootcamp.

Stuff that is NOT part of the "staples" that people here like:

SNACKS!  Potato chips, nuts, bars,  jerky, cookies, crackers, smores fixins, fruit wraps, dried fruit, cheesy doodles, fig newtons

Prepared foods: crunchy cereal, granola, organic pop tarts, canned soups/chili/stew

Bananas, oranges, fresh pineapple, canned fruits,

Pizza toppings

Butter (and the vegan equivalent), cheese (and the vegan equivalent),

Coffee and expensive (loose) teas.

Meat, canned meat, dried meat,

Remember, everything must be organic! or better.  I also don't allow any soy here.

There's a few ideas ...  Maybe some of the boots have some suggestions?

It sounds like Paul and I will be signing 300 books on Sunday, likely in the auditorium.  I'll be groggily waking up after arriving at basecamp around 1am.  If anyone heats up the auditorium a tad in the morning, that could come in handy.

I should also be putting on a Tree Cutting class Sunday evening.  Focusing on the physics of the hinge and notch so that you can drop trees just where you want.  Paul only wants people using the TimberTool when cutting trees down so hopefully it's in good working order.

While the Boots finished the Solarium's foundation - filling in and covering the drystack footing, I placed pavers and gravel to make wide entry areas at both sliding doors.

Once Kyle got the timber tool fixed it was off to the mountains to cut some trees.  No trees were hurt in the felling since they were dead already...

This tenacious young gentleman did one of the best notches and back cuts with a bow saw I've seen yet.  And Ashley baked cookies in the rocket oven (sorry, didn't get a pic)

It might rain a little bit tomorrow so we'll see if we venture up to the lab or stick around basecamp.

Today started with bacon!  So did yesterday but I didn't get a pic...  Can we do three mornings in a row???

People fixed junkpole fence, harvested junkpole, worked on a 3 log bench, cooked with rockets and boxes of hay, prepped for a hugel, worked on a wood rack, planted willow cuttings, cut down a big tree for the sawmill, made a rocket toaster and more things I can't remember.

Finished the day by eating Ashley and Yury's pig's butt cheek.  It was accompanied with keenwaa and biscuits (from Samantha) and it was all very yummy!

*yes, I know it's quinoa ;)

And the answer is...............   No

Oatmeal for breakfast.  But it was nice and foggy at 7am.

Today Malek finished his gigantic 3 log bench, Ashley split shakes, Opalyn cooked a feast for 8+ people and three hugel scaffold horizontals got installed.  I also theorized that pine sap mixed with charcoal might make for a cool sign writing tool.  Experiments ensue.  Also did the third test of the rocket toaster.  Next one should be the winner...
