This badge bit (BB) is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in textiles.

In this project, you will make and sew a zokin. A zokin is a Japanese cleaning cloth made from folded fabric held together with decorative stitching. They are useful, attractive, and easy to make!

Minimum requirements:
  - make one zokin

To document completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pics or video (< 2min):
  - The materials you will use to make your zokin
  - Sewing the zokin
  - Your finished zokin

This old cotton dish towel has totally seen better days. I figured it'd be good to transform into a zokin! I used some pearl cotton thread that I'd found at the local thrift store. I went for a more time-consuming sashiko pattern because the cloth was so worn out and I needed the stitching to hold the holes together!

I made a zokin out of a scrapped t-shirt.

Here is a photo of all the supplies I used to make it. I ended up using three colours of cotton thread.





Dimensions of the starting fabric were over 30" one direction, and over 16" in the other. These were guidelines suggested from one of the posted tutorials, above.





Here's a shot of the zokin in progress. I attempted a retro-'50s deco motif...





Here's the finished zokin, with my hand included for scale. Please don't judge me on my needlework. :)

I made my zokin out of an old cotton dish towel.

I cut the towel in half lengthwise, pressed the cut edge to the inside, folded the strip in thirds, and pinned the layers together.

Enjoyed the company of Ms. Jibber Jabber (our elderly kitty) while sewed up a zodkin from an old cotton Tshirt. I used white cotton thread I salvaged from an old sweater.

For this project I used a cotton tea towel that was thining rapidly, some cotton embroidery floss and some linen thread (to stitch down the edges) both from my thread stash. I tried a couple of styles of decorative running stitches in different zones of the cloth
