All of three of the summer events are going to be great. There are about thirty people here now. Even more are planned for the PTJ and Skip events. Plus we just had Helen Atthowe give us a plant walk and lecture after the normal lectures. She has 30yrs of data running farms and developing a method of cultivation using no pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, getting similar yields compared to conventional farming. There are a lot of details but basically she farms to improve the soil ecology first.

It's only the second day...

BRK Post 93

We are having longer days in class than we ever have working outside. Class starts at 8, four 90min lectures at least, plus design time at the end of the day. Left basecamp after 9:30.

Still had time to get a few pictures of the garden activity. Just some small observations.

BRK Post 94

PDC lectures on Patterns part 1 through 4 today. Defining what patterns are, why and how they develop, when and why imposed patterns fail. Most importantly how to use patterns to understand complex ecological systems and not mimic patterns because you think one is cool.

During our dinner break Josiah explained using the rocket hot water heater and gave us safety tips. Alan chimed in on some points. I haven't tried it out yet, I've just been taking cold showers in the morning. But it does get hot enough for several showers.

Then Chase showed us an awesome resource for plant compatibilities in our designs. Natural capital plant database. Really cool. It has lots of info on several thousand plants, their associates, and how other people have used them in a guild. Plus you can export lists of plants into a spreadsheet. I need this in my life.

I see someone who is spinning while she listens to Josiah! Multitasking! That's so difficult (at least to me it is)
