I greatly appreciate the girbot for pointing out when my enthusiasm and eagerness to speak truth goes beyond the limits of polite company.  This allows me to clean up my language, still addressing my main point rather than casting me out into outer darkness, where, with is much weeping and gnashing of teeth,  I try to figure out what I said wrong.

Gir bot is great overall...but it seems it allows staff to hide behind gir-bot a wield power without no chance for a discourse over what the issue may be.

It seems my thread which was posted inside the 'intentional community' forum is subject to such an attack by a staff member who is posted mocking responses in the thread....is this the purpose of gir-bot?

It works.

The staff here are all volunteers.  100% volunteers.  The only one here who has anything to do with money is Paul Wheaton and he pays for this site to exist (maybe one-day permies will make enough money with thread boost to pay for its own existence).

Because the staff are all volunteers, they don't want to get into long drawn out conversations about how their decisions are wrong and how much they stink.  They would much rather be out in the garden growing food and tasty treats but they volunteer their time to keep permies running smoothly.

If someone wants to talk about moderation decisions then the place to do that is here, in the Tinkering With This Site forum.  Not with individual staff members!

Gir-bot works beautifully. It protects the gentle-souls who moderate from nasty personal messages. If people want to discuss moderation, they may do so in public which encourages people to write more circumspect posts than if they are ranting in secret.

Gir-bot makes moderation much quicker, because if someone were trying to correspond with me about a moderation decision, and it was one of my no-internet days, I might not get back to a personal message for days. The Gir-bot automations are widely available to staff, so any staff member can handle whatever needs to be handled as occasion occurs.  That's some super clever programming. It makes it possible for us to be a team of moderators rather than individuals.

Gir-bot makes it much easier to monitor what's happening on the site, including what staff are doing...

You say that like it's a bad thing.   ??

It sounds like you need to start a new thread in the tinkering forum to talk about a specific thing.  Make sure to post a link to the thread and your concerns.   Make sure your wording is such that you are seeking understanding and that you are not commanding the volunteer staff to serve you.

But this thread is for talking about gir bot, not about a specific moderation concern.

This might be a bit late but here is the link of the thread that I originally posted inside 'intentional community' but was placed other-wise....is there a reason why this thread was placed in another forum. I truly meant it as a call for/to community:

I got it...no i was not commanding sorry if it came out that way. I was simply trying to figure out how my thread, calling for community so quickly turned into something other-than-that. I definitely should have been more patient and gir-bot is great at delivering 'goodies'/'candy'

thanks Paul

and thank you gir-bot for your time and work...i truly appreciate this site and the knowledge it has exposed me to as well as the people it has connected me with...

Here to pet the gir bot, and celebrate the delivery of un-orphan-ed digits.

Also, Kickstarter anagrams to; "taker tricks", I thought it appropriate.

Hi, yes I think it's because I did the Kickstarter that I got so many emails.
Thanks. Maybe one day I'll figure it all out.

Gir Bot and I have chatted a couple of times. I was taken aback the first time but I'm okay with GB now. I just need to be a bit more circumspect when responding in high dudgeon. Or use charming ancient insults . Small price to pay for overall forum nice-ness.

Gir bot is the only bot I have ever known.

I always wonder how this little person got to be so smart.

I also wonder if gir bot is a boy or a girl?

I guess it doesn't really matter.

Gir bot, please keep up the hard work that you do every day for the forum.

I like pronouns. I will have short fun.

I like gir bot.
Bot is a good bot
What is bots name? (analogy leads to adding an "s" on the possessive determiner pronoun form)
Bots name is gir!
Can bot speak by botself?
How many are there of bot?
There is only one. (plural forms are unnecessary)
Whose message is this? Is it yours, or mine?
Neither it's bots. (Somehow I want to say botsown for the full possessive pronoun)
It's botsown.

This is a request for HELP. I pressed the wrong "button" that indicated I did not want to receive any more information on a certain topic. How do I reverse that or once again begin receiving the messages? This involved Rocket Mass Heaters.

Hi Catherine.  If you move up to the top of the thread, just over the thread and left of center (desktop view) you should see a button that says "watch settings".  If you click on that you can click "email me if there is an update for this thread" and you'll be watching it again.
