This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Animal Care.

In this Badge Bit you will train animals to eat goodies when called. One of the uses of training animals is to get them to do pest and weed control for you.

Here are some articles on it:
 - How to Train Chickens When Called
 - Training Chickens
 - Poultry for Pest Control
 - Goats to Weed Your Garden
 - Goats for Vegetation Management
 - Livestock Trained to Desire Undesireables
 - Teach Livestock to Eat Weeds
 - Educated Cows Eat Weeds
 - Teach Cows to Eat Weeds

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
 - you must train an animal to eat goodies when they are called
      - calling “goat goat goat” and the goats get treats
      - calling “pig pig pig” and the pigs get treats
      - calling “chick chick chick” and the chickens get treats
      - calling “cow cow cow” and the cows get treats
 - you must do this at least four times for one kind of animal

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must:
 - post a video of you training the same type of animal to eat goodies four times

Another use is to get them corralled for transport or harvest. Particularly for 4 legged animals.

Please don't listen to these unless you absolutly have to. I'm off-key, I'm too loud for the camera. But here's me singing to the ducks our duck-feeding song.

Here is my submission for the Animal Care - Sand - Train an Animal to Eat Treats BB.

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided 4 youtube videos.

In the first video Sprinkles is looking at me funny because she is used to hearing her name not "here goat."

I have completed this BB, but I’m having trouble uploading my videos. I get a message that the  .mov files that my iPhone takes are not accepted. What movie file types are accepted? I’m sure I can learn how to convert them to another file type, but I want to be sure that I’m heading down the right path.

I don't think you can upload videos to permies. People usually use youtube or vimeo.

Didn't realize that only the ducks showed up the last time for the video. They are all free ranging together.

I guess that I can take another video when I get home and make sure the chickens are visible as well.

I have trained the cats to come in at night.  I tch tch tch if they are close and use a loud undulating trill if they aren't nearby.   I don't think cats fit the spirit of this bb, but based on a response above there are participants who already use calls that are not cow, cow , cow and the like.  Can they submit using their own calls?

I will be taking videos of my chickens after a while, but I just want to make sure that my videos will work.  This is a link to a video of some wild ducks

I believe that these cows have the idea of coming when called for food now. This is nice skill for them to have.

Training the chickens to come when called. This is also really helpful when we do a move and need them to come.
