This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Nest.

In this Badge Bit, you will organize a dysfunctional closet.

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
   - organize a dysfunctional closet (maybe add a shelving system)

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must provide proof of the following with pictures (or a video < 2 mins long):
   - before, during, and after of organizing a dysfunctional closet
   - demonstrate it meets the above stated requirements

Here’s not what to do . . .

I have two shelving units in the garage which need a big sort out. I wanted to move paints etc. into the house before the first frost as my garage isn’t heated.

Here are my before, during and after images

EDIT

I’m converted this to regular post. I misread and thought it could be a closet or shelving unit - not adding shelves to a closet.

There’s a cupboard / closet in my sons room that has become a general dumping ground. It has my summer shirts, my wife’s long frocks and a bag full of my eldest sons clothes that he’s grown out of and random stuff that has nowhere else to go.

I ended up sorting out all five cupboards in our house. I picked this one, because I installed a second layer and removed all the long items. I also got a set of hooks to go over the door for the two long items my son owns - a dressing gown and a purple dragon onesie!

The top rack has my jackets and summer shirts. The lower rack has my sons clothes. There’s room on the shelf for his bags. There’s nothing on the floor.

Before:

Empty with new shelf and back of door hooks:

After - all organised:

My daughter's closet had become a catch-all, and I couldn't find or get to things in it. She received plenty for Christmas from her grandparents, and I needed a place to store her new things and rotate her toys.
Some items were moved to better locations and some were pulled out to give away.

Sorry for in advance for the weird photos. The closet has sliding barn style doors so I was holding them out of the shot.

My closet was just turning into a pile of "stuff". So much so, my gear was migrating into the shelving outside the closet (see photo).  This also happens to be the only closet we have that I can hang long dresses.
(Yes, my husband and I have a lot of gear. We both work in the adventure tourism industry)

I started by removing everything except the dresses and putting in a wire shelf that I had previously used for seedling starts (but now I don't need it because of how much a direct seed!)

The shelving allowed me to put so much more gear in the closet. I also put a hook up to hang the sleeping bags off of.

I organised my wardrobe this evening. I used a crate that I made a few years ago to put all of my shoes inside. As I'm in a rental and can't alter the furniture that came with it, this was a great way to keep my wardrobe more organised. Additionally, I tided the top of the wardrobe as well.

To make it easier to find the clothes I need, I've hung them in order of seasons and types of clothes. I realised how much of my wardrobe is black clothes while doing this! (I work in the theatre industry so it's like my uniform)

Oh no! We can’t get credit unless there’s a before picture, huh? Because I didn’t realize this was a task for “credit”! The  “before” was so awful that I didn’t want to remember it... and now I am halfway through... ah well, there are other dysfunctional closets that need sorting! Just nothing as big as this one!

Hey my food closet was spilling into the hall! So organizing and getting a BB Cool! Technically the "before picture" is after going through the bottom shelf (not the floor) but the rest is such a dumpster fire that that small speck of order is lost in the chaos. We use this closet next to the kitchen as our pantry because the horrible design of the kitchen has no pantry in it. Because it is in a Hall I couldn't back up far enough to fit it in 1 shot but I made sure to have overlap so you can see it in it's disorganized glory.
I'm unloading a shelf at a time and taking inventory as items are put back.

My bathroom closet by far does the most jobs and gets the most use in my house.  That means it ALSO becomes cluttered and messy;  things get shoved in when I'm in a hurry (always) and other things that don't go there get stuffed in too, out of the way, just to get them 'away' somewhere.    It was overdue for a good organize and straighten.

Everthing was taken out,   sorted, organized,  and a plan was made for each shelf.

Afterwards, everything has a home, is visible, and is on the correct shelf!!   Much better!

I organized and adding a metal shelf to our hallway closet. It's mainly used for kitchen appliances, canning stuff, etc.

My closest had kind of gotten out of hand. I had actually already took the exploded storage tubs out a week or two before I really started. 99% of it was junk, like three full trash bags worth. After I got rid of everything I knew I will never use again I put a little shelf in and the boxes of stuff I may actually use. I also culled all kinds of things from that top shelf, but didn't realize it didn't make it in the before picture.
