promote your biz: give pie people discounts

Thanks whoever gave me pie, I am confused about how it works and how to use it, maybe I can figure it out but other people may also be confused.

I found out I had pie because I got an email saying my pie is go in to expire, buy more.  Do I lose my apples too if I lose my pie?  I didn't want to buy pie.

Then I wish I knew which threads are pie threads, I don't see an obvious thing saying "I am a pie thread!!!". So I'm not sure I have read the pie threads or if I've commented in them or if really I've been living inside one giant pie my entire life and just never knew it.

Also I would love to thank the person who gave me pie but I don't know who it is.  Maybe it was emailed to me and I just missed it.  If it got purple moosaged then I think I'd see it for sure.

Not a big deal anyof this bit if it can be tweaked maybe helpful to people, esp super non-techie people.

Also maybe it would be good if I could save my pie for later and not activated it automatically?  So I'd have time to read about pie and understand it?  Or is it supposed to push people to buy things on a timeline?  Thanks!

Having PIE expire makes sense lore wise and community wise.

Lore: You make PIE with apples. You can only harvest so many apples from your orchard in any given time. Unless you have an ungodly amount of preservatives in your PIE, it probably wouldn't last long.

Community: You are given x amount of apples per month (the harvest) by the system. If you have enough apples, they turn into PIE. You can give either apples or slices of PIE to other people who create good content (posts, replies to posts, digital market products, etc etc). Some people offer up their goods on the digital market for the price of your PIE. You can also purchase PIE if you want.

Because PIE expires, it encourages people to support other people who post good content and not hord their PIE, because those people can purchase stuff on the digital market and send PIE to others.

People who aren't using pie don't know what to do with it when someone gives them pie. Please put basic information at the top of the email and the post at https://permies.com/wiki/pie or send us to a post that explains it.

Knowing the pie someone gave you is expiring does not help you know what to do with it. Maybe we should give it to someone else before it expires?? Sometimes, we have too much going on to dedicate time to sorting out what we don't understand. Make it easy and more people may decide to buy some.

if you want to give it to a person go to their profile and look for a pie symbol on the right hand top.  Click and it will give you a place to send them a message.

If you find a post by the person you want to give pie to, there is a pie symbol to left left of "quote".  Click and it will give you a place to send them a message.

1) Does pie expire at a fixed rate?  If so, is it a published rate?  If not, is there a way to view expiring pie?
2) Does the pie transactions page show expiration of pie?
3) Apples given are not deducted from your apple count, but pie given does get deducted. Is that correct?

Yes, one slice of pie expires every month. You can think about it as pie having a 1-month shelf-life. If you click on big pie icon in the menu, it'll take you to your PIE transactions.

It should! I only ever pay attention to the last date listed. For example, if someone had 4 slices of pie, and they got their first piece of pie on the 30th of a month, their last piece of pie would expire on May 25th of this year.

Paul often talks about giving a piece of pie before it expires, but I find that only works on your last piece of pie--if you give away a slice of pie, it just moves your pie expiration up by one month.

You won't lose apples when you lose pie. The only real way to lose apples around here is through apple cores, and that's pretty rare! You lose a slice of pie a month, but you'll not lose any apples!

I'd like to make a suggestion about buying Pie. At the moment, you can buy a slice or more, with a discount for whole Pies, or set up a subscription for a slice a week. Now a slice a week is beyond my imaginary budget, but I would like to set up a slice a month to support Permies. Is this something that could be considered in the future as an option please? Once it's done I don't need to think about it again then.
I'd do this to support the Permies site, and I'd quite like to give more slices away as well.

Absolutely Nancy.  If we could set up an auto-pie-purchase, I would love to get involved.  My wife and I do this for a number of organisations and it works out very well.

Not sure if I totally grasp the concept of the "pie" business promotion page you are starting up. Can anyone explain in very plain detail? I would potentially like to join.

We are a small homestead business. Plant nursery in Northern Florida. We carry truly organic, wild crafted, hand harvested, and exclusively grown on our land plants and seeds. No resale just truly homestead produced products. We also sell chicken and duck eggs. Also completely organic feed that's all American and corn and soy free. Both eating and hatching eggs. We carry all manner of permaculture perennial veggies and herbs as well as more conventional stuff like peppers and tomatoes etc. Many native species as well. We would love as much exposure as possible since we just committed to doing this full time and I just had quit my job. Any clarification of the program at hand appreciated.

I just gave my pie away yesterday for an excellent and detailed review on lost grains of africa but now I want to buy pie with some of my 34 apples. I looked but couldn't find a way. Am I supposed to wait more patiently to see if the computer does a batch run and figures out I need more apple pie? BTW I wouldn't dream of blocking the ad's: they are often hilarious! Plus I always like to see what is new.

You did earn one slice of PIE when you got your first 20 apples, but apples actually cannot be traded to PIE.

You can however buy PIE with real money here.

One slice of PIE (a 1 month membership of Permaculture Inner-circle Elite) costs $3 and that money directly helps support Permies.com, it is used to pay the server bills to keep the site running!
