PEP BB tool.sand.brakes - Adjust Brakes on a Bicycle

Here is my submission for the Tool Care - Sand - Adjust the Brakes on a Bicycle BB.

The Northrock Bikes Video was super helpful and I was able to adjust the brake pads (relative to the rim) at home but was having trouble adjusting brake tension (pad distance from rim and cable tension) so I attended a bike clinic at 2nd Cycle to get some help.  Shelbi (bike clinic instructor) did a bicycle inspection and found my bike in good repair and was impressed by the integrated Pannier Rack.  The brakes and shifters both needed adjusting.  Shelbi acted as a spotter as I adjusted the brake pad distance from the rim on the rear wheel then put oil/lube on the cable tension bolt.  Then I adjusted the pad distance and cable length on the front wheel before adjusting the cable length on the rear.  I do have two different styles of brake levers so instead of matching the feel or travel of the lever, I instead focused on effective braking while doing the adjustments.

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:

Adjusted the rear brakes on my bike - the front brakes were okay, but the rear ones barely even touched the wheel anymore. I ended up having to tighten the calipers. I've never adjusted my own brakes before, but a quick google search told me what to do (and also told me that I have V-brakes, which will probably be useful to know for future maintenance) and it was much easier than I anticipated.

Working on Ashley's bike so we can go for a ride together! These are disc brakes so a bit different than the example but I had to adjust them so I thought I would take a video. Here it is, before, during and after adjustment.

I learned so much about bike care today from my helpful husband! My brakes were pulling my tire stopped all the time. I learned some ways to adjust them, and also that my tire is "out of true." We were able to adjust them enough to use the bike nicely, but the "trueing" will have to wait for another day. Here are a few picks of the work and adjusting being done.

Do Drum brakes on a bike count for this BB?

I adjusted the brakes on my bike.  

I adjusted the brake cables because there was still life in the brake pads. After pulling the brake pads out, one side was way more worn than the other so I flipped the pads so that the worn pad goes where the unworn pad was and vice versa. This effort took a long time (notice how it got dark out) because I struggled too much with the cotter pin misalignment.

Aadjusted the front brake cable because the brake went all the way to the handle before engaging the pads. The rear right pad was also a little bit too low.
