It is the $100 level that has the cards and the other book.  And it is US only.

BUT!  When it comes to the insane shipping costs, did you see that there is a way to get only ebooks?

If you're in Japan I'm afraid the physical copies of the other book and cards doesn't apply.  Those are US Only due to even more exorbitant shipping hurdles and costs.

One way to get the goodies at the $65 level without getting cleaned out by the shipping, is to back the project with two credit cards.  One at $15 to get a physical book at your doorstep.  Use the other card and select "US Virgin Islands" as your location and there's no shipping.  But the USVI free shipping option only works for eBooks, nothing physical.  So with that second "pledge" you get all the electronic goodies and stretch goals.

Another way is to not bother with the physical SKIP books at all and go totally electronic.  Then you just pledge at $65, select US Virgin Islands and shazzam, zero shipping.

It's covered a bit in the FAQ section on the kickstarter if you want to read more about it.

Sorry!

Wow!  Today has turned out to be a really solid day!  Most of the big surge forward is from people raising their backer level!

36 people raised their backer level so far today!

Darn, I thought that was at the $65 level too. (Guess I didn’t read closely enough when I upgraded my pledge)
Now I have to figure out what I’m going to do with 6 of one book. (Maybe give to the Knights who say free?) Was really looking forward to your other book.

I can see why! That list of stretch goals is very exciting, and the $65 level is not as big a step up as the $100 level of past Kickstarters. I am very excited about the Living Woods magazines especially.

Hey guys, forgive me this is my first time using the forums.
I'm backing the campaign at the $65 level and saw that there is a shipping work around, I'm in the US and would like a couple physical copies. I just require some "hand holding" in regards to the work around aspect.

Thanks again for your time!

Welcome to the party bus Adam!

The idea is that if anyone wants free shipping at the $65 or higher level, and they only want electronic books, they can select the US Virgin Islands to pay zero shipping.  Yay!   But what if you still want a physical book?

The "work around" was something they came up with in the last book kickstarter and I'd love to hear from people who've had luck with it.

It's to pledge twice.  Once at the $65 level with the US Virgin Islands selected as your location, and then a second pledge, apparently with a different credit card, for the $15 or $25 level with your correct shipping location.

That's a bit disappointing... I may have to modify my pledge to avoid the unnecessary shipping costs and go all digital then.

Ahahaha, I went looking for a bacon grease meme, and found this:

It reminds me of those old infomercials that would show people unable to do simple tasks, who should apparently just spend money to get something so they don't have to learn the skill.

I don't know, I'd rather learn the skills than fork out money  for a--likely plastic-gimmic. I went looking, and while we don't have a BB for grease storage, we do have one for cleaning a plate/bowl without soap!

A lot of the really over the top situations and acting in infomercials are designed to reflect physical disabilities without specifically calling out/showing them. Someone’s gimmicky item can be someone else’s critical support tool that makes something possible :)

Very true! They just make it look like no one can do those things and that everyone needs the object, rather than saying "If you have weak wrist or tendentious, this device could help you!" I do often defer the grease pouring to my husband, because my wrists ARE weak, and it's hard to hold a heavy pan for long periods of time without hurting my wrist (I really should do those physical therapy exercises I was given...)

$143 from the next stretch goal.  C'mon we can do it!

Spread the word, tell all your friends!

For those who might not know, if you spread the word about this kickstarter you can get a cut of the action!  It's called affiliate codes, or referral codes, or a kick back.  You ask for a special link in the Kickback Thread.  Then you send it to all your friends, family, church members, 4H people, homeschooling people, coffee group, coin collecting peeps, Financial Peace University people, etc.  When they use your link to go to the kickstarter and they back it, you get a percentage.  It's 0% until they bring in $500.  Above that it's 20% on the total amount they bring in.  If you bring in $10,000 or more, you get 30% of everything you brought to the project.

Woo Hoo, we made it to $75K!!!  This brings us to a really cool stretch goal!  If I do say so myself...

Since I've written for Mother Earth News, I contacted them about doing a stretch goal for us.  They were very happy to collaborate on this and hooked us up with a Best Of Mother Earth News issue from 2018.  It's a really, really good product.  It's 196 pages of beautiful pictures and meaty articles.  There's only one page of ads in the whole thing!  And 47 articles on things like:
  • Homesteading on Marginal Land
  • Aquaponics in a Natural Pond
  • Build a Backyard Edible Ecosystem
  • Get Started with a Livestock Guardian Dog
  • Reap Rewards with a Scythe
  • Grow Great Lettuce in Winter
  • Gooseberries in the Market Garden
  • Grow a Green Roof
  • Make a Traditional Hearth Broom
  • Build a Stunning Stone Culvert
  • Brew Backyard Root Beer
  • Curing Meat at Home
  • and on and on and on

  • Here's a direct link to see more about the Mother Earth News Stretch Goal

I look forward to seeing what all this excitement generates, and all the nifty stuff I can learn.

It was all the extras that triggered with the increase. I appreciate everyone who has been working together to get the information gathered together and then posted in a way newbies like me can access it.
I think it was the magazine that allowed me to look at my wallet and justify increasing the library with eBooks, to be honest.
I hope y'all are doing well and looking forward to a great week!

I agree with Kristine, it was all the ebooks and goodies that helped me justify backing the book. I am already old and have property so I don't need to inherite it. I have been gardening for years but I am new to a lot of the permiculture stuff and want to learn more. Although I have land and animals that prevent me from attending any of the great learning camps at the ranch I do want to learn as much as I can from where I am at. Thank you for all you do and help a whole group (multi generation) learn how to survive when the world falls apart

I would gladly go up to $100 (from $15) for the cards and the signed book (I mean I would really like those... much much more than the online content... guess I just have too many videos to watch already), but I'm not in US Any chance of relaxing the US Only condition on that pledge?

I think the problem (and Mike or Paul might correct me on this) is that the print SKIP book is print-on-demand in your country for the cheapest shipping price. The Building a Better World book and permaculture cards have to be mailed from here. I'm thinking the total shipping is something probably really insane, which is probably why the option isn't offered. It could be the logistics of it is another factor. Mailing internationally--especially during these covid times--can take a looooooong time.

I do wonder how many people are interested in the $100 option, even if it had a shipping price that's probably insane. Maybe if there is enough demand, it might become an option?

I tried this as I am not in the US and just wanted electronic copies and it seem to have worked and upgraded my pledge to $65 without adding the crazy shipping costs.

My email address on kickstarter is different to my permies email. Do you know how this works re: the goodies? Does it matter?

Good luck with the stretch goals.
