It is officially underway!  The Kickstarter for the book SKIP - Skills to Inherit Property by Paul Wheaton and Mike Haasl has started!

Kickstarter Kickback

We'd like to reward people who refer their friends to our kickstarter.  The pay out math is much simpler than in previous years.  Get your kickback link HERE

Tidbit from inside the book

"Suppose we have an 18-year-old fella named Ferd. And Mike is alive and well. Ferd and Mike have reached an agreement and Ferd is going to live at Mike’s and learn all-the-things. I suspect that it won’t work out. Mike is willing to teach, but Ferd will need a teaching style and quantity that Mike is not comfortable or able to give. Ferd will want a guarantee to receive the land, but Mike won’t give that guarantee until he can be sure that Ferd will be some flavor of productive. That could take years, and it will probably be less than three months before Ferd moves on, either by his choice or Mike’s.

If instead, Ferd gets a four-year permaculture degree, he will need to find ways to pay the student loans. Research has shown the average bachelor's degree holder takes 21 years to pay off his or her loans (thanks google). During that 25 years Ferd will have done a lot of work, likely much of it in the area of permaculture design and consultation.  Yet that still doesn’t display a high enough level of practical homesteading worthiness by Mike’s standards.

The relationship between Mike and Ferd can work, but there is something missing."

The Table of Contents, rewards details and additional information can be found on the Kickstarter page:

Here's the ads I've made so far! I'll edit this post to add in more ads as I make them! Anyone is more than welcome to steal these and use them to promote the kickstarter!

Well done everyone! I'm just backing it now too.

Quick question: in the levels for $15 and above, which offer the physical book, it states 'Ships to Anywhere in the World' but in the posts to date I thought you'd made clear that there won't be any physical books available to be posted internationally. Can I check which of these is correct? I'm in France.

I think those comments were mainly aimed at the couple of options at the $100 level that specify (US only).

When you select your reward level you then have to chose your country and that's where the different shipping amounts come in.

Thanks Mike. Not to worry, I didn't think to check that so assumed I couldn't get a physical book so just opted to pay a bit more on a lower level. No harm done ;)

well done to you all!

Just a fwiw- a good Visa card (major bank) is far more ‘bulletproof’ than PayPal when it comes to issues resolving fraud. Even with non-fraud disputes (poor quality merchandise, etc) PayPal is not in your corner. At least that’s been my experience and that of many others I’ve heard from. I used PayPal for awhile, but cut ties a couple years after they merged with eBay and things went downhill fast. Not sure if that was just coincidence, but the quality of the eBay experience suffered as well, so I suspect it’s related.

Oh yeah, please keep jumping in!  One goal with Paul's kickstarters is to get funded so the books can get edited, laid out and printed.  The bigger goal is to get 1000's of people backing it so the books get into more hands even faster.  If we keep hitting stretch goals, the pile of loot will be so big that it will go viral and the SKIP concept will really take off

This is really amazing...  Thanks everyone for joining in on this adventure!

I just opened up my email and saw the notification of the kickstarter beginning. "Oh yeah the kickstarter - I should make a pledge and see how it's going".

Then I opened it and said Holy bajeesus it is already past the funding goal. Congrats folks, you clearly know how to run a kickstarter!! Take my $25

I am so excited to see this take off! Thank you. I saw the "it's live email" and come back after work to see it reaching stretch goals!
Whooo! We'll be backing it today too.
Just trying to decide if we both want to back it or combine it on one account to benefit you most. Any thoughts on that?
Is it better to have more backers for less or more money with less total backers?
Either way you're getting my money.

Thanks Heidi! I'm not sure which is better.  If the dollar amount is the same either way, it probably helps the campaign equally.  The stretch goals we've announced are for a higher dollar amount so it might be better for you to do one pledge that's higher.

I forgot to check kickstarter when this went live, but thankfully I remembered that it would start on Thursday so I did at least get my pledge in.  I always love the kickstarters you have!!! Not only do you get the kickstarter item but the perks  go above and beyond!  They are more then generous, even at the very lowest pledge amount.  Thank you for all you do, not only with kickstarters but all that is on Permies.  I tell everyone about it. Permies is one of the best, if not "the" best site out there for information on Permiculature and trying to live a better life for ourselves and to help make things better for all of us.   Thanks again  to everyone that helped with this!! You are all awesome!!!

Just got back to service and put my support in, the first book was so great and I have been gifting the extras out to any interested parties.

Looking forward to using this book as a part of my kids education. Ones running a chick and egg operation, the other is raising and selling lambs. They will be well on their way to a practical education.

Thanks
Brian
