I was about to start one of the carving tasks but figured this would be a good thing to do first. I also learned that my previously sharp knives were actually relatively dull. I'll be holding them to a new standard in the future.

Edge case submission
here is my knife

I have never sharpened it before.  you can see it has some rust and the blade is a bit damaged


I am wetting the stone and grinding off the rust.  looking a litter better

Sorry, my mouse got wonky & pushed the button early. Keep going. Work on the dings a bit more. Especially towards the tip. That looks like a fairly coarse whetstone that can handle the task.

For this BB, I did my first true whetstone sharpening! I order a 1000/6000 grit whetstone from amazon. The knife I used was my skinning knife from last year that needed tons of help.

This is the knife that I use primarily when cooking. I bought a whetstone to sharpen all the knives in my flat. Before its first use, I put my whetstone in water for about ten minutes. I placed a towel underneath just in case.

My little detail knife needs sharpening after all these roundwood projects! It was tough to get it to slice paper when I started. I used a simple little whet stone to refine the blade edge. Back and forth until it was sharp enough to make a clean paper cut!

First time sharpening a knife! Got a double sided whetstone with 400/1000 grit, and then finished with a ceramic honing rod.

The knife didn't even want to cut through the paper at all the first time. It still needs work, but it's so much better already! The honing rod made a big difference, too.
