Developing a residual income is necessary to maintain an adequate lifestyle in retirement.  In Australia the current CPI is around 5% per annum but the aged pension is indexed at 2.5% meaning that about 2.5% of the pension rate has to be found to maintain spending parity.  This BB shows our residual income from Superannuation. Employers contribute to a residual income in retirement called superannuation. To ensure that I can document my PEP journey and update information as I learn more, I have created a journal.  The journal entry for this BB is shown below.
For your consideration.

(This is my first attempt at getting a badge approved, so please let me know if I'm doing this right!)

I created a coloring book that I self-published on Amazon. It's print-on-demand, so I earn royalties every time someone purchases it.

Link to coloring book: https://www.amazon.com/REAL-CATS-Coloring-Book-Adults/dp/1729809715/

Included a screenshot of one royalty payment that came through recently.

It's not making much right now, but certainly fits the "less than $5 per year" requirement of this badge! I'll be making more soon and hope that this can qualify me for the other badges in the future!

I do art and photography as side hobbies. My Dad found a site that you can upload your work and they will print in on stickers, T-shirts, mugs, etc. and give you a percentage of the profit. I have 40 designs up on my shop and I got my first sale today. This income has no foreseeable ending.

For making a residual income I decided to post some of my previous and ongoing art projects on a site called Redbubble, which lets you post your art on their site, and other people can buy your artwork on various items, then Red bubble pays you 20% of the income they made off of your work.

Oh, and by the way. If you want any of my art it's still available on Redbubble.
Here's the link.

I have a residual income stream from a book I wrote:  https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Business-Plan-business-straight/dp/1731505329/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3MPJTT13SMB7O&keywords=jason+tuller&qid=1674336182&sprefix=jason+tuller%2Caps%2C279&sr=8-1

It doesn't earn much, but it earns $5 bucks a year.

I added my 1099-misc.

I few years ago, I wrote a book rather abruptly...if one can actually do that. It does need to be rewritten but it draws money every month. I have it on Amazon and a few other places.  This book tends to make more money around the holidays. I don't promote it at all. I probably should. I get paid two months in arrears so this month (Jan), I will get November's royalties. See attachment. It continues to make money because I leave it up there. If I take it down, it won't. :-)

Hi.  I made my first sale of an ebook I wrote called The Poetry Hater's Guide to Loving Poetry https://selfeducatingfamily.com/poetry-guide-landing-page/.  I have a website for learning and Charlotte Mason-style homeschooling and I was never able to appreciate poetry before I wrote this.

The guide is designed to help homeschoolers incorporate poetry studies year-round with classic seasonal poems.  So it's a timeless ebook and won't become outdated as a revenue stream.  It's not permaculture related unless you count growing children!

Here's a picture of my first sale in Stripe.

Hey there,

I'm not sure if this counts, but I believe I have a potential residual income stream here. To be sustainable long-term, this needs to grow, with more subscribers. The simplest way to make this income stream work long-term is to automate the publication of posts several months in advance (I've already automated the posts for publication 2 weeks in advance), hire a VA to respond to subscribers and produce more content while I'm sitting on my mountain top. This particular stream is focused on makeup and special effects but also funds the production of a comedy series that will be hosted at Vimeo Video On Demand for a more passive residual income.

I also have a Patreon page for my videos and blogs about solar cooking and self-sufficiency (patreon.com/sunchefsara), but it is not generating income at present.

I published a book in 2008 and it was a nice source of passive income, but it is out of print now. I have two new books in the pipeline, though. Both of these will be sold on online platforms (probably Lulu and Amazon). If none of the above qualify me for this badge, I'll come back once my books are published.

Best regards,
Sara Hjalmarsson

Note: Sorry, that stream isn't passive enough (employing a VA, etc).  The other ones sound like great options.  You may consider posting your out-of-print book to IngramSpark to "print on demand".

I wanted a way to quickly remember facts about my local fungi and fauna- I found that the best way- outside of a book (which is a whole other thing) were zines.
A zine is a small magazine, I wanted to make on that could be folded into something small and wouldn't break the bank to replace.  I was originally going to make a big thing, but the format itself meant I had to limit the number of entries per sheet- and for liability reasons I had to make sure I wasn't making any definitive medicinal claims.
So, with these limitations in mind, I chose to make a zine about identifying and foraging for mushrooms to be used in teas. I spent a few weeks researching and making the art for the zine and I did it all digitally.
Doing  it this way meant I could basically list the file on Etsy for a reasonable price, and anyone who had a bit of curiosity and a few bucks could buy it. As it is a digital file, there's no limit on that front, and Etsy lets me auto renew the listing with no input on my part. Eventually I'll move it to another service, but this has been pretty set and forget and should work for as long as I leave it up.

Here's a listing for the first zine I made: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1330097303/foraged-peculiari-teas-shelf-fungi
and my first sale!
I do all my creative work over the winter, so come December, I'll be updating the art for these zines, finishing a flower tea edition, working on a new one for quick conifer ID, and another for berries.

I wrote a couple meditation books and published them on Kindle Direct.  I mainly share them but have made money from them as seen below.

Requirements:
    - Must bring in at least $1.99 before this BB is complete
    - Describe how this will continue to bring in an income for at least a few years
    - For purposes of PEP, it must be something you developed
             - Product development, residuals, royalties and pensions count
             - Not something you bought your way into (investment, dividend, CD, etc)
             - Not something that happened to you (insurance claim, accident payout, inheritance, etc)
  - This income must be able to continue to come to you even if you're on a mountain top for 3 years without internet access

To get certified for this BB, post the following:
  - A description of your income stream and how this will continue to bring in an income for at least a few years
  - A link to something that validates the income stream exists
  - Proof it made $1.99 or more (needs to identify you but you can smudge out other personal info)

Verification - https://permies.com/p/2155994

My income stream is actually from the Permie's affiliate program. I have found by strategically placing hyperlinks in places that have sustained traffic, I can bring in income from the clicks that come my way. Once the front end work of placing the links is done, it self sustains.

A year or two back, I created a Redbubble account as a way to burn off some artistic steam and hopefully make a couple bucks as a byproduct. I made some money in 2022, then I got busy and stopped posting new stuff at all this year. I still made $6.09 in 2023. Not big bucks, but still money. I'm guessing I'll keep selling a few things from the shop here and there.

Here's the shop: https://www.redbubble.com/people/AlleghenyDesign/shop

My name isn't attached to this shop in any way, but I screenshotted the dashboard in Redbubble and the matching payment from my bank transactions list. If that's not enough, I'm not sure how to get a picture that identifies me more definitively?

My income stream is royalties from ebooks hosted at Draft2Digital

My author portal on D2D's public-facing website Books2Read is here: https://books2read.com/ap/81kMlv/Jim-Garlits

Here is a picture of my (measily) 2023 earnings:

https://jimgarlits.files.wordpress.com/2024/01/draft2digital-jim-garlits-2023.jpg?resize=450%2C450

Here's another something I'd forgotten about until recently: https://jimgarlits.wordpress.com/2010/07/03/for-the-birds/

When I was making these birdhouses, I sold about a dozen of them, mostly the $10 ones, several $20s. At the time of the blog post back in 2010, I'd only sold 3, but they were all $10 houses, though one lady tipped me ten, too. I didn't give receipts, but hopefully the post will show it's own legitimacy. Still have to go out and earn $50 for some Permaculture labor...

I've been earning residual income for work I did several years ago in a network marketing company named doTERRA. It's main products are essential oils. It's been 6 years since I was active in the business, and I still receive monthly checks over $200. I am positive this income will continue for at least another 5 years, given the company's high customer retention rate. Even if I do nothing to encourage it.
Proof that the company exists: here is my personal referral link: https://referral.doterra.me/101514
Here's a class video I made over zoom then posted to YouTube several years ago: https://youtu.be/guW35vvmyGw?si=j_W6V7LF1jFjpH9-

I created an account on Redbubble and added items to my shop. Now that it's setup it requires nothing from me (perfect for spending 3 years on a mountain top)
It will continue to bring in money as long as there is internet for people to shop.
