What a loaded sink! Feeding 7 people can make dirty dishes build up quickly! From this full sink, I stack the dishes on the right side, fill one sink with soapy water. I used oasis dish soap and all purpose cleanser, found on this website: https://www.bio-pac.com/oasis-biocompatible-cleaners/. Not just biodegradable, but safe to use on growies. Anyways, the rinse water is in the bucket on the left side of the sink. The clean dishes went into (and above) the dishwasher, since there were so many.

Edge case submission

6:30 AM and it is time to wash the dishes.
We make our own dish soap from scratch, but it is all gray water friendly and biodegradable (I will put the ingredients below).

Coconut oil
Castor oil
Water
Lye
Lemon essential oil

Between canning and cooking, I did two loads of dishes by hand.

Hot water with baking soda wash, and a splash of vinegar in my rinse water.

Each rinse water bowl was 5 quarts of water, plus the small amt. to wet the baking soda. For a total of about 10.5 quarts of hot water.

I wash each dish with baking soda and warm water, and stack them on the counter for rinsing, Rinse them in the warm vinegar water, and put into dish drainer to dry.

I made my soap by taking 1 quart of fresh soapwart leaves (that I harvested down the street), boiling it in 2 quarts water for 15mins, then straining the leaves.

I used the quantity of water that's in the largest pot (dirty water) plus the water in the large bowl (rinsing water). I cleaned like I do for camping, reusing the water as many times as possible. I also used the hot water leftover from hot bath canning so the water was reused many times over! Then the greywater went into the soil for my serviceberry tree.

Confirmed by the volumetric calculation in the table below and pictures to verify, it seemed to me that using 54% of the 3 gallons was an "obviously" lesser volume. I assumed that it was so obvious from the photos that the water used was less than 3 gallons that I didn't include my measurements.

We actually do this everyday since we cook all 3 meals at home most days for our family of 4. So here it is, we are no strangers to the cleaning of dishes without the dishwasher. Also, wee use a foam dispenser, that uses only about 10% to 15% of soap per container. (10% soap, and 90% water). been doing dishes by hand since we were little kids.

To add to my last post, I washed a whole bunch of 9/13's, a few bowls, two cutting boards. and some cast iron. The soap I used is the same, our homemade kind with the following ingredients:
Coconut oil
Castor oil
Water
Lye
Lemon essential oil

Looking over the pictures I realize just how poor the lighting and quality of the image is, I apologize for that. I hope it is clear enough.
